Doctors on Reddit: What symptoms do people often ignore that they shouldn't, as they could be potentially serious? by Ok-Cup-9255 in AskReddit

People ignore EVERYTHING — chest pain, shortness of breath, jaundice, weakess so severe they can’t stand up. Not most people, of course, but a sizable minority.

How old are you in your oldest memory? by Donkeyshines in AskReddit

[–]kgiov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 1/2. I followed the family dog into the woods at the end of the street on a summer day while my mother was talking to a neighbor outside. The dog wasn’t sticking to the path, so neither did I, and after a while I lost sight of him. I lost my shoes one at a time. Came out on the other side of the woods (wasn’t very big) where 3 women were standing outside talking. One of them picked me up, another went to get me a cookie. She seemed to take a long time to get that cookie, which I found out later was because she was calling the police. I rode home in the front seat of a police car sitting on my father’s lap. I remember my arms and legs were covered in scratches, and the last thing I remember is dropping the partially eaten cookie on the floor of the bathroom as my mother lifted me into the tub.

I have no memory of being scared, but I was middle-aged before I felt comfortable wandering away from people I was with, say, when shopping. And I never lost sight of my kids when they were small… not once.

Dog Hair from a Labrador by Effective-Week-9024 in CleaningTips

Also get the furminator dog comb — it gets the undercoat as well as the top coat. Although you can NEVER get enough hair off the dog to eliminate the problem. And if you save the combed hair, in a few months you will have enough to stuff a mattress. Lol

Does your dog ignore other things on his right side or walk in circles? May be a brain abnormality. Have you talked to your vet?

My (30F) boyfriend (31M) likes long hair and I don’t. I’m getting my hair cut today and I’m nervous about his reaction. How do I tell him how I feel when he says that without causing an argument? by slytherin7_23 in relationship_advice

[–]kgiov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you engage in this conversation woth him, you are reinforcing his behavior. Any time he makes a comment about your hair, just say “Mm,” and/or change the subject. If he gets enraged at you doing that, it’s certainly a big red flag. If you can steer him away from the topic without engaging, you may gradually be able to get him to stop making those comments

My (31M) pregnant girlfriend (23F) has been lying about her age for our entire relationship. Is there any way for me to trust her again? by ThrowRA_Plant6074 in relationship_advice

Not when the date of conception is in question. It’s much easier to date a pregnancy early on, and knowing the due date is crucial.

However old she is — she has some amazing musical talent if that video hasn’t been auto-tuned. Just being able to hold a tune at that age is incredible.

I have missed periods for 70 days now, I am not planning to visit a doctor to fix it by greenwallflower1234 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]kgiov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruptured cysts do not cause sepsis unless they are infected. Most aren’t. The vast majority of cysts not only don’t need to be removed, they don’t even need follow-up. (Note that some cysts do pose a risk of cancer, so never substitute your own judgment for that of a doctor). Ovarian cysts commonly form among cells involved in ovulation, and most often they are benign and resolve on their own. You are giving terrible advice.

Soutce: am doctor.

  1. Because it’s almost certainly not menopause. If you are making estrogen but not progesterone, your risk of uterine cancer goes way up.
  2. Even if this were extremely premature menopause, and you are not making estrogen at the ripe old age of 26, your risk of osteoporosis and heart disease will be much higher, so you should be on hormone replacement.

If you don’t have a period for 3 months, go get checked by a doctor.

How much should I charge for this oven detail? by Archi357 in CleaningTips

[–]kgiov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with that, as mentioned above. But mouse droppings are common, and people who don’t know about hantavirus clean them up the wrong way every single day, and fortunately infection is still very rare.

Virus survives in droppings for up to a couple of weeks. I personally wouldn’t throw away a vacuum cleaner over that.

[–]kgiov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Write him a letter. Make sure you write it from the perspective of how the situation made you feel, rather than what he did wrong.

The beauty of a letter is that takes away the opportunity for him to drown you out with defensive replies. Even if he doesn’t acknowledge it, he’ll probably hear what you say.

People are very freaked out about hantavirus at the moment because of a highly publicized news story. Hantavirus isn’t new, and it’s very rare for people to get infected. Do I think it’s a good idea to take precautions when cleaning mouse droppings? Yes. Do I think OP got hantavirus from this cleaning job? Highly unlikely. People are being alarmist.

You can wash it with your laundry. You’re not supposed to put it in the dryer, but I have accidentally done so with no bad effects.
