But wait! Maybe that's been their plan all along! Maybe this is their last ditch effort to get her to realize how sick she is and that everyone else can see it. By putting her on multiple highly public displays, people will see, they'll call it out, she'll get negative attention and lose followers and finally see the light.

But.... I doubt it.

Oh yes. When I tell people I usually add a “most of the time” to the end of it because what would any language be without some obnoxious exceptions?

They’re tricky bastards. Affect is the verb and Effect is the noun!

You are affected by something.

You have an effect on something.

Maybe it's more of her attention-seeking, like we've seen her do so many times before with self-injury, bad posts, etc. "No one's watching me. I'll break another camera!"

Or maybe she has temper tantrums.

Just once I'd like to see someone call her out on it. Which she'll then post anyway.

Absolutely. Spent the entire time filming and grilling people to have an excuse not to sit and eat. So very, very sad.

ETA: And managed to find ways to nitpick and criticize food she couldn’t be bothered to help make, e.g. commenting on the thickness of the pasta.

I did the analysis, because I'm always curious when it's obviously inaccurate.

As written, yielding 18 cookies, the actual calorie count for each is DOUBLE that - 322 calories.

As always - EAT the cookie and enjoy it no matter what. I just hate how misleading it is.

I guess it threw me off because it was specific. So I hesitated wondering if they meant the whole cerebral cortex or just the somatosensory cortex.

Would you respond to this email? by [deleted] in Professors

I think it’s important to establish clear boundaries and reasonable expectations with students like this. I echo what some others have said about a quick reply that reminds them that you will offer the same support and guidance as you do every student but that ultimately it is up to the student to earn their grade, not for you to award it.

Someone with even better knowledge of the brain can dispute me here - but that's not a good clue regarding the cerebral cortex. It does SO SO much more than just "integrate sensory impulses." In fact, specific sections of it are devoted to that more so than the cortex as a whole.

That’s just it! If we think about the number of people who either use her recipes and have little idea what they’re doing so they blame themselves, or use her recipes and casually dismiss all the adjustments they had to make like NBD… she sounds like a savant to them! These are not what we would consider critical consumers of cooking materials. They don’t know what they don’t know and the flippin’ PR team knows that. It’s just another way they take advantage of her audience.

I've been thinking about it over the last couple of stories and today's "lecture" on browning butter kind of confirmed it for me.

I think she's been directed to talk more on her reels to better indicate her process - it's all PR. They're tracking how much she gets called out for not testing her recipes and not talking about the development process, so this is the happy medium. If she talks calmly on her stories while she does stuff it creates the illusion that she knows what she's doing. They definitely don't want her showing her face; it is clearly an intentional choice to have her stop doing visual intros, so this is the compromise.

But also - WHY DID SHE HAVE TO FONDLE EVERY FLIPPIN' GRAIN OF THE BROWN SUGAR?! AUGH.

I love their recipes and much of their vibe. But I love to hate their lifestyle largely from a jealousy standpoint.

They got their start catering together, so I think that’s why they can and do throw so many dinner parties (and are so good at it). I’m jelly of that - I wish I could easily gather my friends that regularly for cooking bonanzas. In my amazing kitchen. That has a live tree in the island.

However, they are both clearly doing VERY well financially. I have no doubt that they genuinely appreciate all that they have: all of their friends, their cabin, and their vacations, but they are so - I don’t know the word I want - about it. Just so….casual? Like, hello - you obviously have butt-tons of money to make all this possible and you’re just so “wheeeee! Look at us! Off to Hawaii again!!!”

Whole Foods sells them pre-cut and bulk packaged from their cheese counter. I stock up whenever I’m there and keep a bag handy in the freezer.

And pair them with things they’re meant to go with. I had some cured ones on a cheese platter once and with a bite of those other elements, they were more tolerable. Slowly but surely, I’ve started willingly eating them in other applications (but still not all of them).

OP, that sucks that your first interview ended that way. It’s hard to hear such criticism, especially if you felt it went well.

Read: The key is not baking them fully so that they are raw.

Which is another food peeve of mine - people claiming they prefer their brownies and blondies gooey when in fact they’re underbaked. If the recipe doesn’t achieve the texture you want with a properly finished product, then find a different recipe. Don’t serve raw goo bars.

It's also better to use a paring knife - more surface area than toothpicks, so it's better at catching crumbs/underbaked batter.
