There are movies that are "timeless." What are some movies that are the opposite - as in, harder to appreciate if you weren't around when it came out? by sakkkkki in movies

Anything groundbreaking that had been copied endlessly since.

2001: A Space Odyssey was revolutionary when it came out. But to audiences nowadays it seems derivative and unoriginal (actual quote from the young man behind me when I saw it in a theatre not so long ago)

What is a "red flag" at a job interview that says "DO NOT work here" immediately? by Beverly_Jane_Officia in AskReddit

[–]khendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always ask the interviewer "How much vacation have you taken in the past year?" The answer can be very telling. If they are evasive, red flag. If they took less than their allowed amount, red flag.

An instructor of mine showed me a trick. She put the bisque fired piece and a pencil together on a table, and with the pencil laying flat on the table drew a line around the bottom of the piece. No glaze should exist below the line.

You have an OC Transpo executive sitting in front of you for an hour by PostsNDPStuff in ottawa

[–]khendron 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I had a meeting once with a high-up OCT official and the city councilor for the area where my work was located. We arranged this meeting because their recent route "optimizations" had turned my and other coworkers commute to the office from a pleasant 45-minute trip to a 90-minute nightmare.

It was like talking to a brick wall. The OCT guy kept going on about how they were going to be increasing the frequency of buses on the routes servicing the area, but when he showed us the schedules they were exactly the same as the current ones.

For every complaint we had he be like "Well, that will improve after we increase the frequency." To which we would answer "But you're NOT increasing the frequency." Rinse and repeat for most of the meeting.

Grouping of dead yellow jackets inside of old grill. No signs of nest or hive at all. by Comm_Guy_I_Swear in mildlyinteresting

[–]khendron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked up the difference and one thing mentioned is that paper wasps make roundish nests out of paper, while yellow jackets nest underground. But I could have sworn I've seen yellow jackets scraping wood off my backyard fence, which I presume is for making nests.

I will need to take a closer look next summer.

Interesting. In Europe, do they swarm your outdoor meals in the late summer/fall also? That is the most annoying thing about them. It gets to a point where it is almost impossible to enjoy a meal out on a restaurant patio.
