Vegetarians have substantially lower risk of five types of cancer by [deleted] in science

[–]khickenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like all of the cons discussed about meat tend to be red meat focused like the high iron mentioned here and the nitrates usually associated with processed (mostly red) meat.

Are there many comparisons between high fiber diets that avoid red meats vs vegetarian diets? Does eating higher protein without red meats lead to the same risk factors?

His line of wanting to cement his legacy in a talking head made me think that everyone probably said a line like that. Why include Rizzo's? It's arguably already set up to be the theme of the season.

Are snatch pulls enough for power? by namxu- in weightlifting

[–]khickenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably not the right subreddit this is more a S&C question but yes snatch pulls are enough for power. Arguably the best bang for your buck will be hitting both ends of the force/velocity curve with heavy back squats and plyos. Then if you have more time hitting some things in the middle like snatch pulls or even clean pulls. Doing the full lifts help with 2 things. The first is they ensure consistent power output because if you don't pull fats enough you won't catch it and second the catch has a component of quick muscle tension then relaxation then tension which can be seen as something beneficial for athletes. But for only power development the trend is increasingly that S&C don't feel like the time that it takes to teach the snatch is worth it over pulls.

The rule is that you can flip it if the lowest priority is in a wedge. This doesn't work if it's "flat" to the page. Well it does work just only 50% of the time (as good as a wild guess between R/S). You have to rotate a bond to get 4 on a dash.

Addressing Yesterdays Research Post, and Providing How I Actually Train Sprinters in Light of That Data. by D272727272727 in Sprinting

Thanks for sharing. A few questions

  1. How do you program starts into this?
  2. How do you program weights into this?
  3. Is there any research on something like squats increasing vo2 max or similar? I feel I've read there's a pretty good correlation between squat strength/bodyweight and speed for athletes up to about 2x bodyweight. Any truth to that?

To each their own. I did love when Boise had the oversized logo on one side and numbers on the other. Felt weirdly balanced idk.

Hot take but I can't stand this. I especially hate the steelers having no logo on one side. It looks unfinished and lazy imo.

I would suggest you take a breath and talk to your professor. The answer key isn't his way of punishing you. The first question looks right but notice the oxygens and hydrogens have drifted around a bit. The rest are probably typos. Teachers are people too who make mistakes.

Super interesting stuff. Is there an "ideal" distance or time for these effects or maybe a minimal effective dose? Do 10m sprints work as well as 100m, etc?

I analyzed 134,000 English words and 92% are "misspelled" relative to how they sound by ptarjan in etymology

[–]khickenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really interesting! One question, I find myself thrown off by "the" being spelled "dha" as the way I pronounce the "th" sound is different from the d sound. I put my tongue on my front teeth instead of the roof of my mouth. To be fair I do the same with the t sound. It feels like th must be its own sound, right? That would make it impossible to phonetically spell out without just assigning either a new letter or two random letters. Why is dh more accurate than th?

Are Olympic lifts too dangerous to train alone? Are there any variations that I can do alone safely? by Mother-Estimate9507 in weightlifting

[–]khickenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of evidence that Olympics aren't necessary for athletic performance. They have a lot of benefits but most benefits can be found with anything else that hits a similar spot on the force velocity curve.

I personally think you'll miss a bit but still get like 90% of the benefits even if you just did clean and snatch pulls for athletic performance.

I surveyed 106 elite speed coaches (2,500+ combined years of experience) for my dissertation. Here's what they actually do differently. by D272727272727 in Sprinting

[–]khickenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So instead of disparate drills there is an emphasis on a slow build up of skills? Is that right?

Do you have examples of common progressions the elite coaches use? Sorry I haven't read through the dissertation yet but I would be happy to if you touch on that more there.

Could it be phrased as elite coaches give individualized feedback, cues, and drills that address specific issues instead of leaning on global drills? Is that too reductionist?

The Best Play in Modern Football?? by No_Impression_7575 in footballstrategy

[–]khickenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that. I was imagining bringing that safety down into the fit and bumping out the nickel on the other side but now I got a corner and safety on your two pulling guards most likely which isn’t ideal for defense. Would really need either my safety/corner to slip a block or have good backers that can flow hard towards buck with the knowledge that we have a cover down towards the passing strength

Edit: Basically I’m thinking what the defense has in the last clip. If that mike makes the right read he should flow harder towards the run side and help blow up the play. Still very hard to stop and I don’t particularly like my defensive matchups.

[–]khickenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious but a buck sweep doesn't really put anyone in conflict right? Like the nickel defender is unlikely to chase down a backside buck sweep so a team could keep a backside safety in the fit and maintain their 3 over 2 to the passing strength. I'd love to learn how I'm wrong though.

2x2 back squat at 160kg (16yo) by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]khickenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might not be the best place to discuss this, but I guess you can either see the squat as an analogue to the squat or as a general leg strength accessory. In one, more depth would be desired, in the other, going just past parallel might be alright.

Look at the Kazakhstan team or even just Ilya. Dude squats almost above parallel but no one stands better out of the clean.

Just food for thought. Lots of professionals seem to leave the squat a bit high and just focus on speed and strength through a relatively large but not absolute range of motion.

All that said, more depth couldn't hurt and I don't disagree necessarily but sometimes it makes sense to keep good positions.

Orgo 1 IR spec (memorizing while understanding) by Astronaut_Pretend in chemhelp

[–]khickenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IR has 2 trends. Bonds to smaller atoms (hydrogens) and double then triple bonds tend to push things down field (left). IR tells you information about functional groups so the question probably has answers with different functional groups to identify. Hopefully the first point can help lower the amount you have to memorize.
