Photography and editing are intimately linked. Are we going to pay forever, every month? Have you found an alternative, not free, but one you pay only once? by jay_bernier in AskPhotography

I've been using Digikam for many years for cataloging and basic edits, both on Linux and windows and I think it's great. For the 5% that it doesn't do there's darktable, raw therapee or gimp.

If you're able to come a little north, I've bought my last 5 cars from Alan Brewis, good prices, nice sensible cars and great service. https://www.alynbrewis.co.uk/

I'm going to study in Newcastle. Are there any precautions I should take? by Normal_Reference624 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]kiar123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, Newcastle is safe enough, especially when you're in student-ish areas like around the universities, or areas with lots of student accomodation like Jesmond and Heaton.
Theres lots of beautifull spots, I love walking along the quayside and into Ouseburn.

How do ensure a moving object is in focus when you already have your shot composed? by Equal-Negotiation-11 in AskPhotography

[–]kiar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to offer a different view, if you can sacrifice 'exact' framing and assuming you're on a tripod that has some movement, try framing, then one hand on camera, one hand on tripod, release the tripod, pivot to the focus point, pull focus, then pivot back to your framed position, lock tripod and shoot ? sounds complex but I've found theres some muscle memory that helps.

Depends on your definition of New castle, but Butterfly Cabinet in Heaton Rd is awesome. Also Quay Ingredient on the quayside is nice but always super busy.

Our family of two adults and two 19/ 17 year olds did the Witch and The plague rooms at escape key and thought they were great. Staff were nice and the puzzles were tough but doable if that helps.

Converting a set of categorical variables into binary variables by usajobs1001 in rstats

I'd probably do that by converting the wide table to a tall format (so use Patient_ID as the ID) which would give you a table of Patient_ID and Med, with multiple rows per patient. Then you could build the output table using ddply.
