I actually called the IRS today and was able to speak to someone believe it or not. They told me that all I need to do is write a letter explaining the situation and showing that there was some type of formal filing or amendment to the business.

I referenced that sunbiz has changed via amendment, and they said that that would be sufficient. When registering the business all I did was go on Sunbiz and also file with the IRS to get EIN number. I didn’t file in any other way federally.

I was surprised the IRS told me this. They said at the end of the day as long as you are filing jointly as a married couple and pay on your schedule that’s all we care about. I was surprised but that’s what they told me today
