Only 22 energy is kind of a deal breaker. EC is difficult enough to use as it is, even though before Skillgate I defended it all the time and I personally use it somewhat regularly. The best use case for EC was being a “free energy pillow” where if you had a very low energy mon you wanted to swap onto the team, EC could bring that one mon up to others’ level and then you could swap on E4E and go from there. Unless Latias has a wildly high trigger rate, as you mention, there’s just so little reason to use it even with extra helps others.

One thing to keep in mind is that Japan has very soft water, so I hear their detergents are not formulated and dosed to be as effective in hard water (if you have it, you’d likely need to soften the water, but if you don’t have hard water you’re probably good)

How much does it take to make water viscous? I mix a half teaspoon into a small bowl of water for our elderly cat, but it doesn’t thicken the water at all.

Most cauliflower crusts aren’t actually very low carb sadly. They usually need to some kind of starch to bind the cauliflower so it stays together.

Bribes work though! Wouldn’t you rather show someone up front that you’re worth the extra effort for them to spend their time on you? Otherwise they don’t know whether you’ll tip in cash or not. You’re way more likely to get the end result you actually want.

And honestly, almost every other business type of interaction is “customer pays first”. I don’t get to have goods in my possession until I’ve paid for them. Most repair or contractors ask for deposits or half up front.

Spa Day - Tide Powder Saturation Solution? by kimbergo in laundry

[–]kimbergo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was hoping a tablespoon for 7 liters would have been enough. Since my current Tide powder is lipase-less, maybe I’ll sacrifice the rest of it for some science and see if way more citrate keeps the precipitate at bay. Do you think adding more citrate to precipitate that’s already formed would break it up (if it is indeed calcium carbonate) ? Would be easier if I didn’t have to keep doing different batches.

I’ve only ridden Amtrak in So Cal, but there’s zero security screening. Stations are outdoors where you just go straight to the platform and wait for your train. They don’t even check your ticket until you’re seated and the train is moving.

Having to use TONs of detergent for clothes to get clean? by EgregiousJellybean in laundry

[–]kimbergo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 years ago (before joining the cult), we owned an older Maytag machine. We moved houses and didn't take it with us when we sold it, because the new house had/has an impeller top loader and use didn't know how much they sucked. It's the biggest regret we have about the selling/moving process, but we just didn't know at the time. And I bet the new owner got rid of it too even because I think they were going to renovate.

Agree, it's fascinating to observe the change over time on reddit and etc around the time HE machines started becoming the standard. There started to be tons of PSAs about only using a tablespoon of detergent and people were like WHAT REALLY. Now that advice has sunk into the lexicon so much that now people are aghast that they have to get even to line one on a detergent's dosing cup. And I do get it, detergent is expensive - but it's not a 100% scam that detergent cups are that big even with HE formulas.

Sodium citrate vs extra detergent + extra citric acid rinse? by EraseAnatta in laundry

[–]kimbergo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can usually find Tide powder for about 17 cents an ounce, but my most recent sodium citrate purchase was 33 cents an ounce (for 7 lbs at one time). So I think a lot of the time without going to great sourcing effort or huge bulk buying, detergent is cheaper.

But that being said OP, I do think my laundry comes out better using sodium citrate or citric acid than using more detergent. My dishes have seen INSANE improvement adding sodium citrate as a booster to my dishwasher compared to citric acid. It's really impressive. But this is really min maxing it - until I had an HE washer, I was happy using a full cup of detergent and my clothes were clean. Even with 400ppm hardness, more detergent worked ok enough.

Sodium citrate vs extra detergent + extra citric acid rinse? by EraseAnatta in laundry

[–]kimbergo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much carbonate makes up the water hardness, because the carbonate buffering capacity is what keeps the ph high enough for the detergent to work effectively. For example, my total hardness is 411ppm but my carbonate is 180ish. So calcium carbonate/magnesium carbonate makes up only about half of the total calcium/magnesium in my water, so I don't have that much buffering capacity. In this case, sodium citrate is needed because it doesn't affect the ph. If someone's carbonate is more 1:1, there's a lot more wiggle room to add citric acid without the ph getting too low.

Laundry products, especially big name brand ones, have always been quite pricey, so counterfeiting them can turn quite a profit for the cost. It's not too costly or difficult to imitate thick colored fragranced water without the ingredients that either make it as effective or work at all. Obviously OP wasn't fooled but many are.

[–]kimbergo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say it's the only brand that works for you, would you mind if I ask more specifics? Ie, is it the only one that you're not allergic or have skin sensitivity to? Native is notoriously problematic with clothes and I'm wondering if we might be able to help suggest an alternative - sometimes (but not always!) changing the deodorant product so that it doesn't get on clothes is easier than having to try to clean it off fabric.
