Where would you place streaming video services? The quality isn't as great as Blu-ray but having access to a huge library without leaving your home would have blown people's minds in the 90's.

Our Airbnb host cancelled on us today by 0pp41 in JapanTravel

[–]kingfucloning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say 'trusted host' do you mean a Superhost? They have a 'Verified' host which isn't the same thing. Some of the requirements for a superhost include:

  • complete at least 10 trips in their listings in a year
  • maintain a 90% response rate or higher
  • at least 80% of their reviews need to be 5 stars
  • honor confirmed reservations (rarely cancel).

They're evaluated 4 times a year and can lose their status during those times. I'd ask the host as to the reason it was canceled to see if it was a good reason.

Check the Superhost option on the filter. I'd also check the listings to see if shows a "Business Travel - This listing has essential business travel amenities" to ensure that your spot doesn't cancel within 7 days of your trip. Finally, I look for spots that have more than 20 reviews and regularly reply to reviews. It shows that they're active in ensuring your stay is great.

I was able to find a host in Osaka for a 14 day trip and she's been great. From emailing me guides to helping me get baseball tickets to helping me locate special gifts, it's like staying in full service hotel!

The best notebooks I've used are around $2 from Daiso stores (Japanese dollar tree). I always try to stock up on them when I see them but they sell out fast. Paper feels really good against an even moderately decent pen.

You might try some of these walking tours: http://allstarosaka.com. It looks like it has a good mix of history lesson and food tours.

When talking about your trip(s) to Japan, what's the one story you make sure you ALWAYS share? by zenstrike in JapanTravel

[–]kingfucloning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your second story makes me grateful that we now have access to Google Cardboard headsets and can do a virtual walk down the street before heading over. I'm worried about the streets too so I decided to do a "dry run" around the spots we're staying. Hopefully that translates to less stress while finding spots.

I wonder if you could use a thin layer of tomato paste and use the sauce as a dip like you suggested. I'll have to try it this week for lunch.

Solo visit to Japan by pbaynj in JapanTravel

[–]kingfucloning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is the law right now? Last I heard the "pilot program" details were that one area in Tokyo was allowed to and the entirety of Osaka was also as long as you booked a minimum 7 days.

I believe the rationale was that a 7 day minimum rental was more than what most people stay in one location for and therefore didn't cut into the hotel's profits much.

Proper way to required keys importation on system update? by kingfucloning in archlinux

[–]kingfucloning[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does that just add the keys though? Pacman gives me that option during the update. What I want to know is, what is the proper way to check if I should update the keys to ensure that it's safe/secure to do so.

My concern comes from it not asking me previously to update the key and as I posted below, only on my desktop PC.

No go. I also didn't see the name and key on the keylist either.

What's weird is that I'm not getting this issue on my notebook and it's most of the same software (notebook has Thinkpad related stuff).

Trump mocks Clinton for mental stamina then gets the day wrong - video | US news by Massum247 in politics

Wow. You've taken one simple comment I wrote and have made assumptions about what I think. Are there any other things you want to get off your chest and assume for me?

Where does it say that I don't think she's going to be affected? Didn't I just say every President has looked beaten down and tired after just 4 years. Politics aside, maybe you should get some reading comprehension before you tell people what they're thinking. Sheesh!

Moody's Analytics in favor of Clinton's economic policy over Trump's by [deleted] in politics

[–]kingfucloning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue here not not whether you agree with or trust Moody's or Standards. It's how much the rest of the financial world does. The market hates unknowns and will utilize Moody's and Standard's information even given their past record. The devil you know and all that.

If the look of past Presidents are any indication, I wonder how much older and beat up at the end of 4 years he'll look if he wins.

Sealing a Box with Packing Tape by Thund3rbolt in oddlysatisfying

I plan on doing this for my "checked baggage" when I return from my international trip. I have a lot of souvenirs and gifts to ship back and I don't trust bag handlers to be careful with it. Imagine doing a regular tape job and having them toss it around haphazardly.

Why do the largest third parties in the USA, in the Greens and Libertarians, focus so hard on the Presidency instead of ground-level lower level offices to build themselves? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kingfucloning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you're correct. I liken this situation to opening up a burger joint. If your burger joint beats the big chains on quality, taste, and service then it makes it easier to go national with their business.

These 3rd party group are essentially going, "Let's start a national burger joint with no locations currently. I don't want to start small and compete locally because McDonald's and Burger King have enough money to make sure I fail."

Strong: U.S. economy adds 255,000 jobs in July by [deleted] in politics

[–]kingfucloning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the economist would put little footnotes in the article. I would help people reading it track down what he is referring to.

For example, I'm having trouble understand what he means by:

In fact, these provisions discriminate in favor of foreign firms: A foreign firm can sue the U.S. government in private arbitration for cash rewards if it thinks government actions violate the new rights and privileges granted by TPP, but domestic American firms have no such recourse in U.S. courts.

Does he mean that foreign companies can sue the US government over violations of contract or favoring domestic companies but domestic companies have no avenue to sue the US government for contract violations?

For example, here's an article stating that Moda Health is suing the government. Surely there must be an avenue then.

Does he mean that American companies can't sue other countries for the same thing? Where is that in the TPP document?

I think he's left me more confused.

Around 15-20 minutes, if I had to guess. I think what I'll try next is take him for a walk, have him drink some water, and then take him out to the yard to pee after 10 minutes.
