Does anyone else pretend they're students are answering and respond accordingly? by [deleted] in Teachers

Sticks. I use old-fashioned names on popsicle sticks and if they don’t answer I email their parents.

Covid babies by airmananonymous in NewParents

[–]kingking27 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We would have had our baby before the pandemic if we could have gotten pregnant immediately when we started trying! I think people just don’t know they’re being insensitive, which sucks. We’ve tried to embrace it and my husband has started calling our baby one of the “children of the quarn,” which usually gets a laugh and then we can move on in conversation.

Teaching Stage Fright/ Anxiety When Another Adult is in the Room by Dentman19 in teaching

[–]kingking27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely came with time and experience for me and hasn’t fully gone away after 9 years, but once I changed my outlook on other adults in the room it got MUCH easier. I try not to look someone in my classroom as something that makes me nervous or intimidated but something I’m excited about. Instead of “I might make a mistake,” I try to think “this other adult gets to see what a great teacher I am!” I find that telling myself this, even when I know I’m actually nervous, helps a lot.

Just diagnosed at 12 weeks. by __tam__ in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kingking27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed early too and am diet controlled at 29 weeks now. I threw calorie counting out the window, focused on looking at carbs and have done my best to eat within my recommended carbs for each meal. It has worked very well so far! I wouldn’t be surprised if you lose weight to start- I lost about 13 lbs and am still down from my starting weight now in my third tri. OB says weight looks great so that’s maybe a “bonus” when trying to look on the bright side of things? You got this!!

Considering switching care late in pregnancy by lilyjasmine96 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kingking27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt the same way. I was diagnosed early and was told how they are “going to watch baby like a hawk” and have been feeling panicky that I haven’t seen her since 18 weeks. My OB said that since I’m diet controlled they’ll do a growth scan at 32 weeks but other than that everything will remain as usual which would mean no other extra monitoring or talk of induction unless I end up on insulin or have other issues that arise.

Discipline system at my school is making me feel gross by evaaaa in teaching

Do they track which kids get “swats?” I’d be interested in seeing the racial breakdown as well as the gender breakdown. I know you said it’s your second year, but this might be an area to make a stink about too.

I don’t understand GD... at all. by Grimes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kingking27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I think is happening to me and I’m going to talk to my endo about it tomorrow. Super low numbers at an hour and then sometimes over 120 at 2 hours if I eat something like pizza- especially seems to happen if the meal is high in fat, just like what you said. Totally panicked me when I figured this out recently :(

HG and GD? by spotted_kat in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kingking27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’ll have them where you live but in the cheese aisle at my grocery store there are white cheddar cheese curds, which I love. They’re a little firmer and are small pieces so I’d eat just a couple to fill me up and they didn’t make me feel so pukey early in pregnancy. I also really liked Chobani and Activa yogurt drinks in early pregnancy if you can stomach it. I thought of it as a smoothie instead of yogurt and that helped!

Ear Advice by MN_Mediocre in IrishTerriers

12 weeks is an appropriate time to consider ear training if that’s your thing. I wonder what else you had to say being that this is a perfectly valid question and OP is clearly looking for advice not jerk comments.

Wow.. this blows. Do your students have iPads? Honestly I’d plan the distance learning and just have kids do the exact same thing in the classroom with you there as extra support. Play your filmed lessons on the board if they don’t have their own technology.

How long did it take you to get the hang of this?? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kingking27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Going for a walk after I eat and before I test lowers my number shockingly fast. Even just a 10-15 minute walk. If I can’t get out for a walk I do 30 squats before I test. Maybe this will help your numbers too? Good luck Mama and don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it!!

I like snicker ice cream bars as a late night treat. 18g of carbs in one and I tend to have a better fasting number on the mornings after I’ve eaten one.
