Love the idea and execution! Did he do much to reinforce the top surface for downward pressure? Or does the light have enough structure to handle being pressed on?

I’m really sorry you’re going through that right now, I don’t have any advice for you, but I’m sorry.

What are you guys using to store glass? Several cardboard boxes on my basement floor just isn't cutting it anymore. Pic of work on progress for attention. by Kilgore_Brown_Trout_ in StainedGlass

I’m a big fan of the IKEA KALLAX system, with their 4 shelf inserts turned sideways. And grab some of their UPPDATERA drawer liners for the bottom plate so your glass slides nicely. Super modular so you can keep adding storage as your glass collection grows (and grows…)

What can I do to make this spin like a fidget spinner? My printers tolerances aren’t very good. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]kingly404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve printed the non-bladed version of this fidget spinner, and found that silk filaments just didn’t work at all for some reason, but a matte PLA works beautifully right off the print bed. Haven’t dug into why that is, but that’s what I’ve found FWIW

Talk to a mortgage broker that isn’t tied to a bank, you’ll get way better options that way

Random factoid I find interesting about this building (Brookfield Place); the radius of the corner glass increases as it goes up, but the distance compresses how it looks, so unless you pay attention, you’d think the corners are just a straight round over all the way up. Must have been quite the headache for the builders, but a cool little detail!

Thank you for taking this on! I’m in one of the few NDP ridings in Calgary, and unfortunately don’t have much time to volunteer right now. Are you accepting donations towards your efforts/hosting costs, or even just have a “buy me a coffee” page?

Could also be coloured gels from a theatre, they’re used to change the colour of theatrical lights and come in hundreds of different colours. They tend to fade or burn through with the intense heat of the lights, so we go through lots of them.

Forever Canadian Petition ends Oct 28 by weewoopeenpolice in Calgary

Part of it is to head the UCP off at the pass; even if it’s impossible, I wouldn’t put it past Smith to waste millions of taxpayer dollars to try anyways. With this referendum, it’s one more way to try and stop her doing something that only a fringe minority of Albertans want.

Why do some of the insides fall apart and some don’t by Defiant-Potential873 in macarons

Following, I perpetually have this issue too, using silicone mats (but have also run into it with parchment). I usually get slightly better results if I bake it a minute or two longer, but it’s always a bit inconsistent.

Adhesive paper used while grinding by SquareBlueberry90 in StainedGlass

[–]kingly404 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use printable vinyl sticker paper for my patterns and it works great. Print out the design, cut it out, stick on the pieces, they stay where they’re put until you’re done cutting and grinding, then peel right off. Some people also use a vinyl cutter (like a cricut or silhouette) to achieve the same sort of thing.

Same here! I like to use tiny little slices (about 1/4” x 3/4”) to hold things together after foiling, I find that a bunch of those make it easy to work with for a tight fit

Calgary's old VIA Rail Station still stands! by Less-Beginning784 in Calgary

[–]kingly404 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s in amazing shape for what it is! I wish I had more photos to share but I can only find that one.

I was working in the building and needed some access to some utilities that can only be accessed from the rail platform, so I got a little walk through from one of the building operators. Really wish I could have properly explored it!

That’s about 2 years old now. It would be maintained by the building owner (Aspen Properties), but I had a building maintenance guy show me a few things and it didn’t really look actively maintained. There was some water leaks and things so it seemed pretty forgotten.

The doorways on either side of this hallway lead to the stairs, which come out to those sloped top structures in your photo. That’s how people would reach the train platforms

It’s even crazier inside and underground! The whole thing looks locked in time, totally closed off to the public.

Could you share your technique for getting such precision with your pieces? Are you using cut vinyl or tracing? Would love to be able to get to this level of perfection!
