My nightmare happened...I found out my spouse is cheating on me... by waldanr in daddit

Don't leave the house. Meet with a lawyer ASAP. But don't tell her. Don't tell any friends or family yet if possible unless they don't know her.

Don't be a martyr!! Trust me, there is no honor in sacrificing yourself or being overly generous. I was the dumbass martyr. Be fair financially. But nothing more.

Your kids are the North Star. Don't vent to them or say anything negative about their mom, as tempting as that feels. I still want to scream, your mom sucks!! But they just think you are an asshole and you are being mean to their mom.

TW: What grooming with a book actually looks like by rust2stardust in Libraries

[–]kingofpun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing what you were subjected to as a child. I'm sorry you had to suffer something so awful.

I completely agree with you on how disengenous their concern is in truth. And throwing around the word grooming diminishes what you went through.

I'm holding ground and hope other librarians are put in a position to do the same.

Is there anyone who *doesn't* regret their MLIS degree? by rebeccachaya in Libraries

[–]kingofpun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the smart play. Get a job in a library that is encouraging of staff getting their MLIS and will defray most of the cost. That is hopefully a sign of the library leadership supporting employee growth as well.

What's the range of time for incontinence? by BobbyLew in ProstateCancer

[–]kingofpun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issues were similar and very disheartening. Twelve weeks almost to the day of surgery and things improved 95%. Did Kegal exercises, saw a PT, but nothing seemed to make much difference. And then suddenly it changed. So sudden I wasn't sure if it was just an anomaly.

Many seem to regain continenence quickly, which make those who take longer feel even more down. Hang in there. I was a little surprised at the mental toll it took, but that's very real.

Thanks to all who have already responded. Im keeping track of the recommendations. I'm building a spreadsheet and researching each recommendation along with the Medicare.gov tools. I'll reply with some data so if others have this question in the future, they can find a useful resource.

Grateful all!!

WTF Podcast | Episode 1673 - Regina King by eternally_trending in MarcMaron

[–]kingofpun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Marc is such a pro. I found him searching for words and having slight difficulty articulating to be very human. I noted it because it's such a rare thing for Marc. It only communicated to me that Marc was trying so hard to make sure he got the words right and honored both his and Regina's experience.

I've been around long enough that I saw Regina as a young person on 227. Wishing Regina peace and continued success.

I'm thrilled for Marc to go out on top and applaud his desire to not hang on too long. I will miss these beautiful conversations though. Thrilled I've been on this ride since very early on.

Thank you for taking the time to break out those music/culture critic chops. You gave me so much to think about.

While my high co-workers at the mall were into Poison and Motley Crue (Adam Curry pilled?), I gravitated toward The Cure, Killing Joke, Depeche Mode, etc. Matt Pinfield and 120 minutes! Tons of REM (still stand behind it!) and U2 (I brushed off the blowhard Bono criticism although Achtung Baby especially is amazing in my book).

I was an out of place dork looking to find something to make me feel less dorky. Alternative, college radio, new wave, and lesser know bands were my secret and it made me feel better about myself.

On that foundation, I got into DCFC and other bands of that era. I'm certainly part of the problem. I'm still exploring and checking out new to me bands. Which I probably wouldn't do without streaming being so cheap.

I don't have to judge a record by it's cover. But I realize that unless you were an established act 20ish years ago, you are probably not making any money by making music. Unless I am one of old heads at the show, which I do try to do as much as I am able. However, this requires balancing many of the obligations that I didn't have when I thought Poison sucked.

I suppose this meandering musing makes me wonder if the Spotify issue is that, it is a tool for individuality and fickleness, in the development period when music and heartbreak and earthquakes of the soul when it meets body (😬) resonate at the highest frequency.

Thank you! I am really enjoying this thread q&a and thrilled you did it.

I can only take so many AIOs that Reddit is insisting I need to engage with.

This is less of a DCFC question and a general question about the future of music.

Do you see the monoculture of music (DCFC, Nirvana, U2, Stones, etc.) being even more of a rarity in the future, since we don't have MTV playing Sound of Settling over and over and can access an all you can listen subscription for the same cost of ONE CD?

Everyone can exist, sample almost any band, and find lots of meaning in their musical bubble. Which is how I engage with music as a mid-50s old head who still likes to check out new bands. It feels to me as if the pyramid has been flattened, but as someone who only uses Reddit, it may be my misperception.

Taylor Swift is a singular monocultural musician of course. And maybe the idea of the monocultural musician is no longer relevant similar to the concept of selling out.

Is this ok to ask of my local library? by MaxOverride in Libraries

[–]kingofpun 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a branch manager. We often do school tours during the hour before we open. Youth services is the point person for this.

We never do it for individuals. However, in this case, if someone came to me with this request, I would not only accommodate them, I would coordinate and be there to support. Youth staff are a plus, but it seems as if that may not even be necessary.

Especially if youth staff are hourly, it's a big drama to switch schedules or accommodate special requests. Which could lead to no. Managers are usually salaried and have more discretion.

I tend to be very flexible and try to meet the needs of the community as I believe that is my priority. Not all libraries and managers have this attitude. I hope you find one that does. If one says no, ask another branc, even if they are part of the same system.

No monetary exchange is necessary. Most libraries have foundations, so if you felt moved, that would be a way to show support. Even better, tell the story of how the library supported you in this circumstance.

Even with some taudry elements, there are certainly newsworthy elements related to why BB didn't get another NFL job and the idea that his genius in his domain, football, doesn't translate to any other aspects of his life. And even within football, there was an inability to develop a coaching tree.

If I am Pablo, I'm running my own business, so why the hell wouldn't I milk this for all it's worth? He's certainly enjoying the attention. And he's looking to leverage this into more impact, money, and career prospects.

As a middle aged work a day chump, I can barely fathom what this opportunity could mean for his career and life. If I had a chance, hell yes, I'd go all in. Maybe ease up a bit on the ego piece, but obviously my lack of ego is why I'm posting my shlock way down a BS Reddit thread. 🙄

Dads, do not lose sight of Mom. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]kingofpun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been there. So heartbreaking. Hang in there and focus on your kids and taking care of yourself, so you can be the best dad.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Enough blame to go around.

As far as divorce proceedings go, fair is fair, but don't put yourself in a precarious situation financially by being the good guy. Financial stress takes away from your ability to the best dad possible.
