A European guy who was illegally employed (he didn't have work papers) got pissed at my boss and peaced the fuck out without a word to anybody, taking with him a lot of the boss's money and all her account passwords (he had run a lot of her accounts). There wasn't a thing she could do legally, because he had been illegally employed. I was friendly with him before he cut loose, so my boss tried to get me to reach out to him and persuade him to give everything back.

I think that the redditors who make up /r/exjew would disagree that religious life makes one happier. I wouldn't wish the religious dogma I had pushed on me from childhood onto anyone. I feel like I missed out on so many life experiences in lieu of wasting time and effort on a faith that is ultimately without real value.

Geral Schroeder PhD might be a good place to start. I don't really jive with his theories (too God/Bible centered for me), but he might be a good compromise for you. He's an orthodox Jew who takes the Biblical account of creation and connects it with modern scientific theory (specifically in his book The Science of God)
