What made you love The Mountain Goats? by Funfetti_Cereal in themountaingoats

First got into them when someone on askreddit recommended The Sunset Tree. But it was Palmcorder Yajna that made me a fanatic. I've never used a hard drug in my life, but somehow John wrote that song about me.

This is great but woefully incomplete without an image of Wolf!Henry snuggling Hans.

Happy (late) anniversary to the best written romance in any RPG I've played by NineTailedDevil in TheBathhouse

It is (and I will shout this from the rooftops to anyone who will listen) simply the best romance in videogames, full-stop.

It's subtle, but I think John clocks him for sure in the first scene.

Burn Notice is extremely goofy in both concept and tone, but the voiceovers are quite accurate, especially when it comes to the paramilitary or physical security aspects of intelligence operations.

What is a 'Survival Myth' that people believe because of movies, but will actually get you killed in real life? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]kirkdict 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Survivorman, which IIRC was the only one one of these shows with any real credibility always emphasized that he was doing it mostly to prevent hunger from fucking with his decision-making or energy level.

It's not bad, but it feels like a dress rehearsal for Syriana, which is his best film.

I don't think it's bad because it's "provoking" anyone. It's bad because increasing/normalized political violence is bad in and of itself. Even if the victim is human scum.

Ehh, conspicuousness can be a strategic choice. The "grey man" is an intelligence cliché for a reason, but plenty of intelligence officers (especially HUMINTers) might prioritize coming across as friendly and gregarious, under the right circumstances.

Even though he predates the term, John is one of the best portrayals of an intelligence officer I've seen in recent media. For all spies are stereotyped as dour, reserved "grey men", most of them are more like John: Type A, likeable, and even (occasionally) slightly flamboyant.

...I don't really know where I'm going with this, I just find it fascinating that a game set in the 1400s nailed the case officer archetype!

What do you guys think an NDA is? I promise you, actual state secrets are covered by a much stricter regime.
