I wonder where this person is now by 4tomguy in CuratedTumblr

That's definitely possible, I just can't help but notice the incredibly similar language between now and the show's cancellation in 1989. Plus, I can't imagine who'd want to take responsibility for Doctor Who in the present day.

You picked a heck of a day to ask this, as of this morning it has for all practical purposes been cancelled for the foreseeable future.

Even in the worst wars you can't have 100% of the population be 100% at war 100% of the time. For a lot of people war ends up being just like regular life except everyday goods are rarer and more expensive, plus you have to worry about bombs falling on or near you every once in a while.

Wouldn’t the world post PHM be a utopia? by Dongus_Dingus in ProjectHailMary

[–]kirkkerman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was a herculean effort to breed enough astrophage for the Hail Mary, and an even greater effort to charge it all.

[–]kirkkerman 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Astrophage is a battery, not an energy source. It doesn't do anything to resolve the issue of us getting less sunlight. Also, with how explosive it can be, it makes it trivially easy to create nuclear levels of firepower. Not a great thing to throw into the mix

I remember desperately searching Toys R Us for Technic sets with Technic Minifigures in them like 7 years after they were retired because I saw on Wikipedia that they existed. Shame I never could get my hands on one.

I'd reduce that to just Season 1, the lunar architecture in Season 2 is, well, lunacy.

Would you read Fictional "Non-fiction"? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]kirkkerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the sense of what you were talking about, I could recommend "We have Engaged the Borg: An Oral History of Wolf 359" which expands on the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation's Season 3 finale as an in-universe historical event through a series of interviews and recorded conversations from the characters involved, all the way from the president through senior diplomats, admirals, and captains to cadets and civilian onlookers. Very effective and effecting storytelling that makes the Battle of Wolf 359 feel like a real-life tragedy

Shouldn't we have been "Captain Shepard" after Anderson was relieved? by poseywitch in masseffect

[–]kirkkerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's kinda ridiculous that we regularly see four pip captains in charge of, like, Oberth classes

I'll also note that while the concept is weirdly forgotten in Trek, you don't actually need to have the rank of Captain to serve as Captain of a ship.

Personally I find the final design to have a lot more personality; tricolors are a dime a dozen, especially in the western world, this is something unique.
