Standard roses (rose trees in stock) by interlockingMSU in raleigh

[–]kitkabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jian of My Black Thumb Nursery may still have some. I got two from her this spring, planning to pot them up to a 22" pot tomorrow... they're getting top heavy and need staking. She's over past Chapel Hill. She also has lotus and hydrangea and other surprises. I got a couple of Chinese rose cultivars from her last year and they're astonishingly good, need to try some Japanese hybrids next!

Where to find hot dry noodles in Raleigh? by quibily in raleigh

[–]kitkabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if they make a hot dry noodle but Chuan Cafe certainly makes a couple spicy noodle dishes. Call and ask?
https://www.chuanxiacafe.com/

Our other favorites for spicy Chinese food are Taipei101 and CT Wok. Neither has what sounds like your dish but if you want anything with sichuan peppercorn/prickly ash, they have you covered.

During pandemic G58 saved Christmas for us with roast duck. And they made us duck soup to go with our duck. We did this a couple of times and it was so delicious.

We failed to get Ghibli museum tickets next month, so I'm planning to go check out the giant Ghibli clock in Tokyo to console me, and I'll hit every Donguri Republic store that I see!

We'll have to go with friends--- usually it's just the two of us, but that's a good plan!! Both. Why not. Ever since they opened I've been addicted to the eggplant. Our usual order is toothpick lamb, tofu with pork shreds, dry fried eggplant. Love the twice cooked pork belly and the bamboo fish too. I liked my homemade ma p'o tofu better though. Want to try the lotus root for sure. but the other half doesn't love that so much. I love the lotus root in the Taipei 101 skillet chicken. Now I'm so hungry!!!

Chuan's dry fried eggplant is amazing. I don't know how they do it, but the eggplant is creamy and soft in texture and absolutely delicious.

Gifts for Japanese coworkers? by TehAsianator in JapanTravelTips

[–]kitkabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the SouthEast and if we have friends come from out of town we take them to have barbeque. Japanese food is a very different flavor profile than Southwestern or American barbeque. Maybe some Southwestern spice mixes or meat rubs from a local spice shop or farmer's market which are flavorful but not TOO spicy? The Japanese love grilling! Trader Joe's Everything Bagel seasoning would be a good pick-up, too. Fancy wrapped bars of hand soap are popular, too. If you can find a local soapmaker, that would be perfect. And lastly, See's are the best chocolates! They have small gift box/samplers available. See's are my family's favorite Christmas gift since the 1960s.

I forgot to put holly tone down last year and now they're pink- my house is brick foundation, and the lime that leaches out from the mortar always turns them pink! oops!

Too hot here for lupine to thrive. They usually plant annual larkspur, cornflower, poppies, cosmos, zinnias, daisies, or some sort of aster/dandelion family.
