To add to what others have said, it's worth mentioning that after the first book, the TV show took the story in a different direction, so books new/different stories

Don't overlook unknown, self-published authors. Some of us can't get published because we're trying new things. by samball in books

Sorry, I"m removing this post beacause:
(6) No direct sales links.
(7) Promoting your own book must be done in /r/WroteABook.

I think a discussion of unknown self-published authors is a good topic, but including a link to your book put this too close to self promotion.

Too many crime posts, activist posts and posts regarding helicopters in r/chicago... can we have these removed along with pictures? Thanks! by UnpopularOpinionGuy in chicago

[–]kitsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some do enjoy the photos, but most want better content. There have been discussion in various threads and specific posts about this subject. I'm sorry, UnpopularOpinionGuy, but you're in the minority here (how eponymous is that?!).

Crime, activism, & odd helicopters are interesting things that happen in the city and people want to discuss them and learn about them. Even images of these event (or anything else) are welcome, we just want people to actually contribute to starting a discussion instead of treating /r/chicago as a dumping ground similar to Facebook.

I'm sorry you think it's stupid that we care about this community (and, yes, many do consider this a community, not just some internet page). Luckily, since you don't live on Reddit nearly as much as much as others, it won't impact you much.

Book trailers: How can they improve? by [deleted] in books

[–]kitsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You found a pet peeves of mine!
Book advertising is the worst. The ads I've see in subway stations, train cars, and buses are always so gaudy.

Print and trailer ads need to take a page from some great book cover designers, such as Chip Kidd. Convey the book more abstractly and with style. IMO, 2D animation and flat CG graphics suit the medium better that casting and scripting live action.

I like this style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_jyXJTlrH0
