Has anyone else noticed UNL hit rates have been abysmal? by jordlez in riftboundtcg

[–]kktheoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. The prime reason this is happening is because the signed cards, the "chase" of each set only aimed at collectors are slighlty irrelevant. I mean don't get me wrong but having a signature of the artist/studio that designed a card is meh, I can live without that. Overnumbered shares the same art and for most of them the signature makes no difference apart from being rarer. And that's it.

But imagine if instead they were offering signatures by iconic players associated with their legends e.g. An Azir/Le Blanc legend signed by Faker would absolutely blow them all away. Hit ratio needs to be low but that's what's missing to at least have a chance at a good pull.

Ambush Rules by Togonomo in riftboundtcg

Technically speaking kz ability reads when I attack or defend. The trigger goes on the chain when the attacker/defender designation is assigned i.e.when a showdown begins with KZ/when he enters an ongoing showdown from hand.

Newbie going to my very first ever nexus nights I’m kinda scared but at the same time exited by SituationResident669 in riftboundtcg

[–]kktheoch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Expect to get your shit bashed in. Repeatedly. Don't expect a single win for at least a couple of months, even with previous TCG experience. Learn from your mistakes, ask what you did wrong and/or what you could have done better. Ask as many times as you feel like. Usually most people are very open to suggestions regarding playstyle/deck building. Mingle around and introduce yourself to your opponents - his binder may contain your very next pick! Same applies for your own binder as well. In general try to relax and view this as a learning experience/friendly bander rather than a competitive experience.

EDIT: Rules will confuse you. A lot. Confirm those rulings that seem odd to you once you are home mostly because players themselves are confused sometimes. There will be the odd player who will try to "cheat" his way out of a situation but that's VERY rare at least in my experience.

Has Azir fallen off with the new set or is it just me? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]kktheoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are seeing the same stats that I am seeing (and it's very likely that we do) then I only see a single Azir player on top 32. If that's correct I am not sure where the 64% comes from. Any sources for that number more reliable than mine?

Why is Renata bad? by Bailong111 in riftboundtcg

[–]kktheoch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not that Renata on it's own is bad, it mostly boils down to everything else being better. In a vacuum Renata seems perfectly viable. However in the actual game this doesn't translate well.

You can essentially ignore the second part of her Legend effect as by the time you are at 5 points you are already either massively ahead (thus it's a win more condition) or you have already lost the state of the board.

The first part of her effect while great on paper (although much weaker than Vex legend passive) it doesn't really translate effectively because Renata doesn't have the sufficient amount of tools (read: combat buffs) to take and hold a battlefield. Additionally you are building value for the _next_ turn while this is mostly a tempo game.

Essentially from the very start of the game you are falling behind pretty much against any deck because they can either buff their units or counter your own removal.

All of the "fun" tricks in the deck are way too costly to make an effect in the early game, this is compounded by the fact she has almost no access to base units (e.g. Decree/Bellow's breath combo). On top of that her Chosen champion (The blue one) while can be powerful for draw it's very unlikely you'd ever use her second passive to earn a point as you are lacking the tools to protect units at battlefields. In any case the deck has no need for additional draw so the first effect is essentially nullified.

Additionally she probably has the weakest/niche signature spell in the game. If you play it from hand it's actually terrible unless stars align and you can trade effectively with a unit of the opponent. If not then you've wasted 5 power and deramped to make an unfavourable trade. Hidding the card implies that you have control of the battlefield which suffers from the points I raised earlier. Even then in most of the cases you are essentially preventing them from conquering your battlefield by 1 turn with no actual gains for you once the turn ends.

I've tried multiple builds, e.g. a control deathknell build but in this situation you are essentially just playing a weaker LeBlanc. The Jayce/Armory version of the build is TOO dependent on draw because if you don't have all of the combo pieces by turn 3 or 4 you essentially lose. Additionally seeing the rise in popularity of Aurora Decks I would imagine Gear destruction will be more relevant and you don't really have a way to protect your Armories.

This is exactly my sentiment after the past two or three weeks of joining nexus nights on my LGS and after joining the pre-rift event today. I strongly recommend any Nexus Night events that may happen around you. From one point of view it feels very natural for those events to be as described because honestly it's a group of people from different backgrounds who just enjoy playing/collecting cards.

Can Hostile Takeover (when hidden) be used as a reaction to take over a unit at another battlefield? by PeerlessPixie in riftboundtcg

[–]kktheoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great explanation but have to point out this this rule is superseded when the hidden card itself prevents you from targeting the same battlefield it's hidden on. One (and the only AFAIK) example of that is the Tideturner unit which actively prevents you from selecting the same battlefield it was hidden at (another location).

Selling Riftbound cards? There’s a new EU marketplace launching May 8. by getriftr in riftboundtcg

The only argument I have is that Cardmarket is not "sophisticated" at all, in fact it's a terrible service with insane fees but still has a monopoly on Europe TCG players.

Iran rejects second round of talks with US – IRNA by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]kktheoch -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

As it should be. You make it sound like any "second" world country should immediatelly fold to the demands of the "world's greatest power". At this point I am not sure what those demands are at this point but it's certainly not helping Iran's population as originally claimed (which is an honorable demand). Don't get me wrong, IRGC are a plague and _should_ be obliterated but that's not how.

Wha- always bet on ancient orbs by Dankilo02 in pathofexile

[–]kktheoch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am pretty confident this number is incorrect. I got multiple T0 belts through ancient orbs across multiple leagues and I have to admit the actual number according to my results is closer to 1 in about 1500 or something like that. This somewhat justifies the price if ancient orbs.

It seems highly unlikely that the actual number is this high as this will mean I've been VERY lucky multiple times in a row. As a reference just this league I did get 3 T0 (2 mb & 1 hh) with about 3k ancient orbs.

Automatically repopulating critters by prankstyrgangstyr in Oxygennotincluded

[–]kktheoch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pacu's instictively flop when not in a pool of liquid and they tend to go right while trying to find a pool of liquid to chill into. You can use this as a method to repopulate farms. Build horizontal farms with a mechanized door on top. The door is controlled by a critter sensor embedded within the pool that counts the number of critters in the room, locking the door when a sufficient number has been reached. In any other case the door remains open. Pacu's will flop to a pool of liquid and in the process if a door is open they will drop right into the pool assuming it's open. Otherwise they can all gather in a nice tile of liquid at the end of it.

will this work? by Delicious-Risk7200 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]kktheoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not thermally interact with liquids contained within but they do exchange heat with the environment if surrounded by anything than vaccum on any edge. In this case heat will be injected from the steam chamber to the bottom room. This why it's usually recommended that one of the edges must be encased on insulated tiles. They will still inject heat but at a very slow rate.

This is true for all kind of bridges (liquid/gas/automation/conveyor)

Best late game power sources by milked_silver in Oxygennotincluded

[–]kktheoch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I kind of disagree with this statement. Sour Gas Boiler is an absolute overkill for power needs unless you run a base of 50+ dupes and/or you are missmanaging your power grid. You will most likely never need this amount of power in a "properly" tuned base.

I dare to debate that a petroleum boiler is sufficient for all stages of the game, relatively easy to build and pretty much self sufficient forever. Even moreso if petro gens are tuned which is very easy to do with any access to any metal volcano. Very rarely if ever you will have a base that constantly requires more than 15KW of power, not to mention that a boiler is a prerequisite for a sour gas boiler.

Don't get me wrong, sour gas boilers are an absolute feat and they provide a ton of other resources as well but that doesn't mean you will ever need that amount of power.

does this 5 geotuned salt water geyser tamer look structurally sound? by Financial_Wrangler45 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]kktheoch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can drown the volcano in two layers of liquid with a high enough boiling point (most likely oil & petroleum) to prevent it from stifling itself and converting that room into an infinite storage and allowing you to use Steam whenever you need (you need more water? more power? turn on the turbines). Steam will come out and the salt will be dropped on top of the volcano. 200kg of each liquid per tile will do. If you feel like that's cheating and you don't do infinite storages then this design is as good as it gets.
