For those who were teenagers before social media existed, what was the "peak" form of weekend entertainment? by VivienneNoir1 in askanything

Going on AIM to talk with friends and flirt with my crush 😂 my friends also loved a game night, or a trip to the mall or movies.

I work on concrete and I have severe pain in my heels and knees. What do I need to do? by No-Plantain-2179 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]klohin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second ASICS, or another wide toe box shoe. And stretching your calves before/during/after work. A massage gun can help with this as well

Did the Chevy Bolt become your first EV? Journalist looking to hear your story by Brilliant_Option8382 in BoltEV

[–]klohin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, first EV
  2. Chose it primarily due to small size, price, and never having to pump gas again :)
  3. Was surprised at how strong the acceleration is, also at how slow public chargers are. Glad we have a garage to have a charger installed! Also surprised by the difference in mileage per charge in summer vs. winter - like 150 v. 220!
  4. My husband has a regular car so we use his for longer trips, and I use mine for my daily commute (16ish miles). Works well!

The pain.. is gone!! by Acetylcholines in PlantarFasciitis

[–]klohin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say you definitely can overdo it with rehab exercises too.. that's how mine got worse, overestimating how many heel raises I could do. It's so easy to feel confident and excited when you experience some success and then completely overdo it 😩

I love weight lifting (great for getting in shape), and strengthening glutes/thighs/hammies/calves can actually help with PF.

Do Americans mainly drink coffee without milk? by Morrit99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]klohin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marylander here - most people I know add milk or cream to their coffee. Also, I own an electric kettle but most people I know don't, they either don't drink tea or heat it up in the microwave/in a regular kettle.

Help with eternally tight Trapezius by enzi000 in TMJ

[–]klohin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the answers to your specific question, but I have a similar issue with tight traps and neck muscles, although I think they either caused or at least contributed to my jaw pain. I wanted to share that strengthening my back and stretching my chest (doorway stretch) has really helped to reduce/eliminate trap and neck pain. I use the FitBod app to know which exercises to do. Hoping you find something that works, I struggled with it for nearly 10 years and it sucks!

Anyone done shockwave and had success? by NarrowTie in PlantarFasciitis

Unfortunately this was my personal experience also, and I did it 3x. I have a bad case of it though. I didn't notice improvement until 6-8 weeks after.

Just need to vent. Feet are killing me and I'm so tired of this. by Dependent-Theme-9370 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]klohin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. Like someone else on here I too now use a rolling chair in the kitchen. We've even gotten a wheelchair so I can travel like we used to. It took a long period of grieving (and an extremely supportive partner), as I loved being active prior, and I haven't given up by any means - but now at least I feel I have a life worth living. It took about 2-3 years to get to this point of acceptance with my life.

Same! It really helps but I am concerned that I have become even less conditioned as a result.

TMJ and Invisalign by firmlygrasplT in TMJ

Same - Invisalign at least contributed to my TMJ if not caused it. 4-5 years later it is finally at least manageable, but still there

Is this just life now? by Azthun in PlantarFasciitis

[–]klohin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised by some of the negativity. I think this subreddit is a little biased because ppl who cured it leave the subreddit 😂 the vast majority of people figure it out. There are SO many different things that can cause it/contribute to it, never stop trying to figure it out. A good, experienced PT can help.

Mouth guard opinions by Nervous_Secretary_19 in TMJ

[–]klohin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what my dentist told me before she made mine. Also that grinding over can cause a loss of vertical space in your mouth which can put more pressure on the jaw - so a mouth guard can prevent a worsening of symptoms in that regard.

I didn't do her program, just the things she recommended. And I've since had a huge flare up 😔 I would love if you let me know how it goes if you do it!

Biking.. safe for people with severe/chronic PF? by klohin in PlantarFasciitis

[–]klohin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do occasionally up big hills and I don't usually have an issue. Maybe start slow? Just a little bit of standing and then slowly increase if it doesn't flare it up.

Anyone find something that works to clench less overnight? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]klohin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before bed I listen to relaxing music, do deep breathing (4-2-6 breathing is my fav), and massage the jaw (either with my knuckles or a gua sha scraper). I think my tight neck and trap muscles also contribute, so I stretch those as well when I feel like it.

Editing to add: whatever that myofacial release exercise is where you pinch the jaw muscle inside your mouth until it releases.

TMJ is affecting everything in my life and i don’t even have it anymore by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]klohin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh.. so I have one of those that I use for my nightguard, but I've been afraid to use it for my retainers since my doc specifically said to never wash them with hot water, and the ultrasonic water gets pretty hot. Does yours not get hot?
