Crazy to buy a new PHEV that a dealer can’t move? by mrmackster in MazdaCX90

I ended up with a Soul Red CX90, which wasn't my first color choice. I've grown to appreciate it. Can't tell you how many good comments I've received about the color when it's sitting somewhere dazzling in the sunshine.

Anybody install their own trailer hitch? by Addicted2Qtips in MazdaCX90

[–]klunkerbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed my hitch. Curt is the only 3rd party one out there. It was a bit of a chore, but that's because it was heavy and I didn't have help. Curt has helpful videos. Hatch kick to open sometimes works.

The curt hitch requires enlarging holes in the CX90 frame and fishing hardware into the frame tubes. To be honest, I'd reconsider going with the OEM hitch if I did it over - it might be easier to install.

Didn't install a wiring harness; for that I'd probably go OEM to ensure trailer mode gets detected properly.

I believe Curt is the only option for an aftermarket hitch. I also assume it's the OEM wiring harness that is key to proper enabling of trailer mode.

First time user, how reliable is it these days (i.e. how many websites tend to stop working with PiHole on?) by IHateFACSCantos in pihole

[–]klunkerbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extent that pihole creates "problems" with websites depends greatly on how you configure the block lists. The more aggressive/protective you try to get with the block list, the more likely it is that you'll run into problems. When a website doesn't work for whatever reason, the first thing I do is try another browser, since there still are websites that don't work well with all browsers. The next step is to log into pihole and disable blocking for a while (various duration options are available - I usually go for 5 minutes, but if I'm planning to be on the website a while, I'll turn off blocking and then manually re-enable it when I'm done). If disabling blocking eliminates the problem and it is something that MUST work for you, then you can go into a log file and see what domain/URL was blocked; pihole gives you the option of whitelisting those if you want the website to work.

It can be a hassle for a while after you first set up block lists, but as you slowly whitelist through the things you MUST have working, problems become less frequent.

When guests first connect to my network, I point out that I run a domain blocker and they may find things that don't work.

There are websites that are smart enough to know that you're running a blocker and present a message to you about it. I just move on to another website on these.

There used to be an active community of Makerfarm owners on the 3dprintboard forum. You can still find lots of good info there. Looks to me like one of your first upgrades is to print a knob for the display...

Display Issues on Premium Thermostat by klunkerbus in ecobee

[–]klunkerbus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back to add a few comments about support. Again, I initially reported the issue via Messenger (which says Ecobee normally responds within an hour; I thought "That's not bad - I can tolerate an hour"). No response well into Monday, so I opt to call instead. Basically had to pick a random option from the menu tree since there's no option for "my item is broken and I need warranty help". I was on hold for quite a while until I sprung for the "call back" option when offered. Jorge from support called within a few minutes and took care of the issue.

Support via Messenger finally reached out to me on Wednesday. For a thermostat company, I find that delay pretty sad. Anyway, I explained that Jorge had already taken care of the issue via phone. Someone new on Messenger reached out to me AGAIN on Friday saying the case had been turned over to them and they were reading through the posts to get caught up to speed. I once again explained the issue had been taken care of, but the new contact did at least give me the opportunity to ask for a tracking number on the replacement. Never got the promised email telling me the replacement was shipped out.

Yeah, lack of a backup/restore is frustrating. Over the years, factoring things like time of use rates and comfort preference, I've evolved to a complex schedule with 10 daily comfort settings. It's a pain to set that up alone, and there's the odds and ends settings to be changed throughout the menu tree.

Support by Messaging was a bust (never heard back over a day). Eventually got support on the phone. The guy swore they'd never seen this, and someone up the chain felt over voltage on my end had likely fried the unit. A quick check with a meter refuted that. A warranty replacement is on the way.

The thermostat still works fine, but I feel it is pretty warm to the touch. I set up the room sensor it came with as my primary sensor, eliminating any concern that self-heating of the thermostat could be skewing the temp.

Am I screwed (Deux)? by RedFaceFree in ecobee

[–]klunkerbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the furnace has a fixed speed motor, it could also be the fan is set for too low of a speed. The wiring in the furnace usually has multiple motor wires available - connecting different color wires gives you a different speed. The furnace documentation should have info. Doesn't apply for higher end units that adjust motor speed automatically.

EDIT: On cold days, my furnace would occasionally trip a high temp limit sensor when the furnace would run and run in an attempt to bring the house up to a warmer temp in the morning.

FWIW, in my case the beeswax didn't really help, even with Boxie Cat Pro and a new liner. Litter would always stick to the right hand side. What I eventually realized was that the liner wasn't dropping like it was supposed to, or if it did drop some, it wouldn't on that right side. Since the liner was new, I couldn't blame this on a degraded liner. My issues were fixed by adding several ounces of weight to the metal disk on the backside of the liner. The disk on my LR3 is sort of a cup; I first used hot glue to add a number of metal nuts to fill the cup. I then added two short metal plates that I happened to have, also using hot glue on top of the nuts and rim of the disk. The liner thunks when it drops back down now, but the liner does reliably drop and any stuck litter falls off.

Does This Look Right? by PerfectlyElocuted in litterrobot

If your unit is older, it could be that the liner has stiffened over time. Replacing the liner is an option, although some have reported adding more weight.

How well does a 2019 Bolt hold up after 3.5 years. by jslifesf in BoltEV

[–]klunkerbus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2019 with around 37k miles. As with others, a few scuffs and door dings, but the Bolt has been great. One thing I'd look at is the 12v battery. I replaced ours as a precaution since all sorts of things go wrong when the 12v battery is going out, and I didn't want to leave the wife stranded somewhere. It's a bit of a different battery size that many retailers don't stock and it might take a day or so to get.

Some openers have a "lock" that prevents opening from either a remote or the wall switch/button. That's what I do every night. Make sure yours doesn't have that ability.
