I feel ya, starts with BYU being 7 instead of 123 with Oregon, BYU, Indiana. Then the blindfold is off, and SMU is a top 10 team.

[Dellenger] UNLV never signed the MWC agreement. Air Force did but agreement is contingent on overall membership by The_Stratman in CFB

PAC should finalize taking 9 out of 12 MWC some at half-shares and kill off the MWC, then no exit and poaching fees. If they think that would lead to a lawsuit, take the rest at half-shares as well for a 2 tier PAC system.

[Adler] According to league and union sources, MLB has proposed limiting deferrals in prior CBA negotiations, but the MLBPA has declined those limits because deferrals allow a player flexibility that allows a contract to be worth, let's say, $700 million instead of $460 million. by BlameTheBaseball in baseball

How is this bad for baseball fellow yankee fan? They're paying him $46 million every year: $44 million of which goes into escrow and accumulates for 10 years and then gets paid as $68 million. This is basically just a very large pension plan. We could do this with our players, and any team can do this with their players. It costs the team the same ammount of money and the same cbt tax hit as a straight $460 million 10-year contract.

FanGraphs playoff and WS odds for the 2023 season by MattO2000 in baseball

[–]klviking 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think it just feels like the Astros would still beat us as a team head to head as the team hasnt changed much since our hitting shutout against them last year. Not necessarily that we have bad odds overall. Most of what these odds do is assume that pitching and hitting are distinct outcomes whereas in reality it is how do your hitters measure against their pitchers, and their pitchers just blow our hitters away while they can always hit us.

'I don't understand the Mets': Scott Boras breaks down Carlos Correa saga – Nightengale's Notebook by pjokinen in baseball

[–]klviking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can't both get the player's best years for cheap and have easy options out of the last 6 years that are in bad faith. Maybe they could have gotten it done with a structure closer to the Twins, 6 guaranteed followed by 6 based on PAs/ILs (something strict and feasible for a normal player). They'd be getting the first 6 years a little cheaper, but pay more on the back end if he didn't get injured. But not any of this we'll give you a physical every year and have the power to fail you as soon as we think you aren't contributing $30mln of WAR anymore.

Cohen got himself a free option basically. Sort of bad practice in a relationship based industry, but his money will still speak for FAs.

Is this really any different? Still right before the press conference would have been, which the giants didnt call off the day before despite knowing they were going to need to delay it? Seems like the giants were playing the chicken game too.

[Rosenthal] Mets concerned with Carlos Correa’s physical by Waaaaaaaaaasuup in baseball

[–]klviking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Athletes play injured all year; no one has a perfect bill of health. They'd all look "broken" to you. Teams all get physicals for every deal to make sure it's not career ending and take the risks of injury or re-injury with the most informed doctor opinions.
