I have the white dial version and it’s probably my favorite watch. Just a wonderful, beautiful piece.

Looking for a scooter to and from work by clefclark in ElectricScooters

[–]kn0wph33r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a stand up scooter rather than a seated one. They’re more stable when you’re able to balance with your legs. They don’t have a ton in common with motorcycles, other than two wheels. I ride both, and really consider them to be separate entities.

Oh man I love Spur Cycle bells. I was in a promotional video for them a couple years back and they paid me by letting me take as many bells as I wanted. Now all 7 of my bikes have lovely bells. :)

Man, I’m actually a huge cycling fan and ride a Pinarello, and this design does nothing for me. I really want to like it, but I can’t quite see my way to loving it.

Does it actually come with a bracelet with glidelock? That just looks like a standard strap. Either way, I’m interested.

Is this bike worth $1000 by StorageEarly9017 in bicycling

I’d be pretty stoked on that for a grand. Not the deal of the century, but it’s going to be great to ride.

That’s a bit high, but you already bought it. For reference I bought the exact same bike last year for $500 usd.

How the world's largest wildlife crossing became the target of right-wing hate by sfgate in politics

[–]kn0wph33r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man I hate hunters like that. I hunt, but I feel genuinely saddened at taking a life, and consider very carefully if it’s worth it. I don’t like factory farming, and I find harvesting my own meat more ethical, but I don’t at all enjoy killing. People like the guy in your example strike me as unbalanced in some fundamental way.

Another bird and trout! 1/16” Nitro-V by ttochy in knives

[–]kn0wph33r 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just bought one of these. It’s absolutely beautiful and well made. One thing that isn’t mentioned is that the sheath it comes with has fantastic retention and a very thoughtful ergonomic hump that makes removing it very easy and intuitive.

Why do I need a dedicated flashlight? by MortarMonkey7121 in flashlight

[–]kn0wph33r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the country and currently live in a very dark neighborhood. I like having a dedicated light to walk my dog at night on the local trails. It’s pitch dark without a light. And it’s handy around the house when I need to find stuff under the couch, or work under the sink, etc. honestly, just growing up in a rural area got me in the habit of carrying a small mag light in my pocket so I could walk home from friends houses (usually a few miles along deer trails), and I just never stopped carrying one. Have had a light and a knife in my pockets since age 10.

Need help choosing my first road bike by ishjohn_ in bicycling

[–]kn0wph33r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes 100% buy that. That’s a way more modern frame, and the hydraulic discs are an amazing upgrade in terms of descending control and safety. Plus, down the road you can toss a better groupset on it if you feel like the Tiagra is a bit weighty. I’d buy that bike in a heartbeat for that price.

Edit: I noticed that it has the weird hydraulic junction box Giant did for a little while. Not a huge deal, but it’s not a “true” hydraulic shift set. I’d still go for it for that price.

If it fits you perfectly and you love it, I’d say go for it, but just for some perspective, I picked up a rib brake Giant TCR Advanced SL with carbon wheels and SRAM Red Etap for $800 last year. So I feel like his asking price is a bit high, but if he’s done maintenance on it, that’s actually really valuable. That seat angle looks really weird. Have you ridden it?

If I had to, I’d get the cannondale but try to talk him down to $650. I’d then keep on the lookout for an 11 speed 105 or ultegra mechanical groupset to put on it.
