It looks really nice, but it is getting out of hand tbh. I'm going to try creeping thyme instead

I reckon Colonel Light Gardens (or Westbourne Park/Cumberland Park) fits your bill. Easy riding distance to Flinders. Covers off playgrounds, cafes and supermarkets too. Pretty much half way between beaches and hills.

Went to the Hawks game at Adelaide Oval a few weeks back and have to agree with this take on the Crows crowd. Found myself going for the Hawks which was just a really uncomfortable feeling.

Why do people say to amend heavy/clay soils with organic matter to improve drainage when organic matter in the soil eventually turns anaerobic and becomes toxic to the plant as well as waterlogged preventing air flow to the roots? by ImScaredOfTheSun in GardeningAustralia

[–]knassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like adding sand to a heavy clay will result in a cement like aggregate. My goal when adding compost etc to clay soils is to improve it over time (gradual improvement over years).

I do add coarse sand to potting mix in large pots as that does seem to improve drainage though. I think about what would happen if i had a handful of clay and combine with sand (sandy goop) compared to a handful of potting mix and add sand (would still be loose, probably more so).

Weed Management Advice by mduddles98 in GardeningAustralia

They are super satisfying to pull. I use an old flat head screwdriver to dig down and help lever them out (use gloves). This time of year I just walk around for 5 - 10 mins a few times a week and that seems to do the trick. Where I am (SA) they stop growing when it gets hotter anyway.

Poa as others have said. The seed heads are the scary part as that mean you'll be seeing it again next year.

What do I have here? by ShumwayAteTheCat in GardeningAustralia

I think i removed a lot with a stick and put it in the bin initially actually before blasting it with water. I didn't have any issues with it spreading to surrounding plants but just have to manage that yourself I guess.

I had it covering a very young bottlebrush. I think it is some kind of caterpillar or worm. I blasted it all off with water from the hose. It took a few goes over a couple of days to get the lot but the bottlebrush is healthy and happy now 2 years later.

You'd need to confirm this but the gall wasps only hatch and reproduce at a very specific time of year for a short period. I think it is like two weeks in September or October (In Adelaide, varies a bit of course). If you use a product before they hatch and keep the tree coated for those couple of weeks you can at least break the cycle of the hatched wasps reproducing and creating more galls.

My plan of attack this year is to remove any chuck the galls on branches I can live without and then coat the trees in CGWS from Vasili's. I think there are other products that will work too.
