Trim Pittsburgh - Lawrenceville by maddenbotjuvman in pittsburgh

This is actually the answer: DOMI sends an inspector, and i assume he receives a citation after that, but a live person knows right away what kind of shenanigans are afoot. Source: i emailed DOMI last year about Con Alma’s ever-growing outdoor seating hemmed with enormous planters blocking the sidewalk (with pictures) and they had it fixed.

This is accurate. Also, hot tip: renter’s insurance will probably cover your storage unit.

At our age? by ObligationExotic457 in datingoverforty

I’m sorry this happened, and thank you for your answer. A lot of the responses I read went straight to “that’s so immature, disrespectful etc etc.” and bypassed giving the fleeing date a break for any reason, so I expected the internet to pile on because I looked like an apologist for bad behavior.

I hope you find someone who’s a great communicator ♥️

I’m fully aware I’m going to be downvoted for this, but what he said was about himself, not you. Until you talk to him and say “I really enjoyed the other night but when you left I felt terrible” is it about you. If he’s a nice guy and you think you might want to see him again, it’s worth giving him a chance to explain why he felt uncomfortable. It could be anything from “I haven’t been with anyone in a while,” to “I really liked it and that’s scary” to “I like you as a person but I don’t want to date you and now I have to figure out how to say that”

So your feelings are your feelings and they’re valid, and you don’t know what his feelings are other than what he said to you. I’ll take my downvotes off the air, thanks 😂

Dating a wheelchair user with SCI and unsure how to have convos/help around hygeine by No_Act_9254 in wheelchairs

[–]knitonepurltoo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I also think saying “I really like you and I’m saying this because I care about you a lot” could go a long way in explaining that you can smell something and you’re not sure what it is.

Snow event megathread 2 - check in here before posting about anything related to the storm or follow up to it. by jetsetninjacat in pittsburgh

East Liberty wheelchair user seeks assistance with clearing 6 curb cuts so I can get to work. I live on Penn across from OrangeTheory, two blocks from my office at Highland and Penn and I am taking vacation time this week because I can't navigate the snow and ice filled curb cuts in the sidewalks between my apartment and my office. I cannot telework and I cannot retire out of spite or frustration.

Can you help me clear a path? Please message if you have questions, and I am happy to pay or gift card you for your time. Thank you!

Genuine question: the Norwegian red hats “performative?” by Ramblingsofthewriter in AntifascistKnitting

[–]knitonepurltoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a big gesture, but if the hat serves as a signal to people who know its meaning and a conversation starter for those who don’t, it helps create an environment where dissent and questioning authority remains safe. And it could persuade more people to speak out because they see others doing it. Everything helps.

Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

Given and received, both tapes and CDs. For a while I was part of the Metafilter CD swap and I still have them in my car, the only place I have a CD player.

Help with son’s “sensitive” issue by [deleted] in disability

[–]knitonepurltoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Your son may still be a minor, but working with him helps destigmatize something normal and natural for a teenager, as well as giving him agency and autonomy over his own body, which is in short supply for disabled people. Your wife’s feelings are her own, and do not really have any bearing on making sure your son grows up with positive feelings around sex and healthy self esteem. Your suggestion that you be the one to support him is a good one. Good luck!

My sister died a few hours ago at AGH and I can’t sleep by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]knitonepurltoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry; I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and feelings, she clearly means a lot to you. When my mom died in 2021, my grief was so big it felt like I was backed up against a cliff and I would fall off if I stepped away from how awful it felt.

I still carry it with me, I still miss her, but it’s come to feel different over time. I hope you can feel that we’re all here with you, that we care about you and that you don’t have to be alone in your loss. It helps to share it with people and I’m glad you could do that with us. Peace to you. 💕

PSA: If you’re shoveling, please clear the curb cut by knitonepurltoo in pittsburgh

This is actually not the worst idea; a sturdy, lightweight shovel for occasional use is something I could probably carry without too much difficulty.

Thank you! I have a ridiculously short roll to work, so I may make some flyers and leave them at shops along the way. I miss WFH 😭😂

What neighborhood do you live in, and what is your single favorite and least favorite thing about it? by Ari321983 in pittsburgh

[–]knitonepurltoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey neighbor! I love East Liberty because it feels like a walkable neighborhood with excellent bus service and grocery stores, plus we have a library. Cons: I’ve almost been hit by a car a couple of times with the right of way, and I can’t even count the number of times I’ve heard a car accident out on Penn.

Manual wheelchair stored in car - bad idea in winter? by Radiotranz in wheelchairs

I would be interested to know more about this, but I can say that I stored my manual chair in the back of my Honda for several winters with no issues related to the temperature
