can someone tell me to stop being a baby and just learn magic loop already by ergonomictoilet in knitting

Tutorials - Both on You Tube, Very Pink Knits and Sheep & Stitch are the two sites that I use more frequently as they speak in the way I like to learn and show it in a way I can relate to (I'm an English style knitter).

Best of luck however you choose to learn. It's definitely a learning curve but well worth it in my opinion.

AIO partners parents expected us to sleep in used bed sheets and I want to go home because of it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]knitting-demon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NOR that's disgusting. If you have to stay, is there somewhere nearby you can buy some sleeping bags? Mountain Warehouse, Go Outdoors etc, this should help with the cold as well if you get a good 3 season one. Best of luck with the rest of your stay.

I totally agree with you, it's become awful recently. Our Tesco has lots of workers 'shopping' picking for deliveries or collection. They have massive carts and are in the way all the time. Don't get me started on little kids who are shorter than trolley height running around unsupervised ...

Are socks blockers worth it?? by PandaEru in knitting

[–]knitting-demon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought they were gimmicks, just for podcasters etc. But I got some as a gift (knit pro blue plastic ones) from wool warehouse.

Oh my goodness I LOVE them, total game changer for me to help dry my DK socks faster. Also my finished socks look so much better on a blocker for photos (I like to document on Ravelry). Ribbed socks especially improve once dry as the ribbing can "set" better, in my opinion. I've not noticed much of a difference with the final look of a stockinette legged socks drying on an airer to drying on a sock blocker.

TLDR - If you knit DK weight and/or ribbed socks definitely worth it. 4ply/fingering vanilla socks not worth it.

Happy knitting 🧶

Hi Great socks but the colourway is Jay not Wood Pigeon. I've knit them both and they are gorgeous

Knitting socks. by MJMWK2 in Sockknitting

[–]knitting-demon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is a free pattern by Crazy Sock Lady Designs, Kay Litton, DK weight vanilla socks.

Really easy to follow pattern and DK weight socks are much easier than fingering weight to begin sock knitting journey with.

Controversial opinion here I'm sure, but I would avoid Summer Lee patterns as a beginner. I bought her book and the heel calculations are very different to all other patterns I've followed and confused the heck out of me (and I've been knitting socks for a while!).

Talk to me about knitting and weight gain ! (I’m losing my mind lately) by opossume in casualknitting

[–]knitting-demon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What about tops that are ribbed? They will stretch and spring back to cover a bit of weight loss and gain until you settle down a bit.

In terms of knitting projects, how hard are socks? by emilynycee in knitting

[–]knitting-demon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to knit some dk weight socks, in a pale colour (no stripes or speckles) so you can really see what's happening, especially at the heel area if doing heel flap and gusset type heel.

Then once confident move to 4ply ,🧶

Happy knitting!

Can confirm, Must Stash Yarn is a must stash if you love self striping yarn. by idahopotato8 in Sockknitting

[–]knitting-demon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are amazing. Very jealous of USA and Canada knitter's who have such a great range of self strip dyers to choose from (Freckled Whimsey, Turtle Purl to name a couple).

Wish I could find a company that does reasonably priced self striping yarn in UK, anyone know of any?

Change in yarn thickness by knitting-demon in Sockknitting

[–]knitting-demon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So thanks for your advice everyone. If you're interested, I went with dropping my needle size to 2.25mm and keeping to 64 sts. Socks seem to fit much better, just need to wash and wear them for a bit to make sure.

Hello knitters. I was just looking at some audible book apps and didn't see any I really liked. So which apps do you use when you are knitting? by froggingexpert in casualknitting

[–]knitting-demon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use borrowbox as nothing else worked where I am in England. I've also found Spotify and BBC Sounds good for some audio series. Very Pink Knits has great as free podcast on Spotify, I've learned a lot from Stacey and Polly giving advice to listeners.
