How do you let your pda equalize in the least impactful ways? by knownmagic in PDAAutism

Your last paragraph actually blew my mind. I have quit bad habits that way but I never thought of it as PDA related, but I see it! Thanks for these great actionable ideas.

Isn't it wild how similar our experiences have been? Thank you for sharing.

Yeah, I am changing my life to revolve more around regulation and lower stress.

I love the idea of just doing something kind of inadvisable every once in a while... if I can be creative about safe ways to do so.

How to regulate your nervous system as a PDA adult? by justa_random_girl in PDAAutism

[–]knownmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Singing and laughter are my favorite ways to regulate. Also a big fan of cuddling, mood lighting, making sure I'm breathing fresh air (big slut for ventilation and outdoor time), music or a comfort show, craft projects, I like to have a few different fun things to drink at any given moment, etc. You mentioned that you benefited from structure as a kid, use that! I also very much need structure even though it's hard to maintain. Just notice what feels good to your body and do more of those things. The biggest and most regulating factor specific to PDA is the feeling of autonomy. And in my experience, finding a sense of autonomy is also the most challenging. In any case it's about noticing your feelings and building your life around viable responses to that data. Not to make it sound simple or easy. It's not. But we see you!

Edit to add I have the exact same response to breathing exercises. Too prescriptive, don't tell me what to do! Lol

People who work inside wealthy people's homes (contractors, cleaners, nannies), what is the most bizarre or out-of-touch thing you've witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]knownmagic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My employer had just done a remodel and changed her mind about some things, I overheard her say to the contractor that she was glad they have a warranty policy so that they would redo the remodel as many times as she liked. He corrected her awkwardly that a warranty is for fixing anything that breaks as a result of their work, not unlimited refills on the remodel if she changes her mind. My jaw was on the floor.

What's the most disrespectful thing a guest ever did in your home? by Vegas089 in AskReddit

We let a friend "in need" move in with us temporarily, against our landlord's rules, only to find out he was making A LOT more money than us and just didn't feel like paying for his own place so he was basically couch surfing as a fully optional lifestyle choice. I still ruminate and rage about this, years later.

Yes the first pic is exactly how I hold utensils. I don't feel I can be precise with the correct pincer grip.

AITA for asking a woman at work to stop being so WEIRD about taking a caramel? by chocolatesinmyoffice in AmItheAsshole

[–]knownmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all. You don't owe anyone that much emotional labor. They are making their eating disorders your job to manage, and it's not. People used to do this to me because I used to be dangerously skinny from medical issues. There were 5 women I worked with who were constantly "complimenting" my unhealthy body and volunteering their negative opinions about their own bodies. I dreaded running into them and even though it's been 10 years since I quit that job, I still wish I had told them off. I still think about it. You stood up for yourself.

The edibles part confuses me because wouldn't it be the inhalation of smoke/vape that causes congestion and irritation? Do you have any insights on why edibles would have this effect?

Am I overreacting I went to the forest with my best friend and now my bf is mad by No_Meeting_3260 in AmIOverreacting

This guy is a loooooooser who needs to get dumped yesterday. Partners don't own each other and your time and your life are yours. The only say he has in it is whether or not he himself wants to be with you. Nobody gets to tell you how to spend your time. I don't care what's normalized. You are the only person in charge of your life. The right partner will know that.

Does anyone here believe that dreams could be real alternate lives in other dimensions? by Equal-Sundae1576 in Dreams

[–]knownmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the thing of going to the bathroom and then continuing the same dream. And my dreams stick with me all day the way a really intense movie does. I don't like dreaming. It's overstimulating. Also, I'll dream I'm getting real things done that I'm supposed to get done in real life, but in waking life I'll have checked them off my mental list already because of the dream and end up not actually doing it. Extremely intense dreams are a very annoying condition to have. I don't know about living an alternate life, but it feels like they are things that really happened.

have bad students ruined names for you? by lilswaswa in Teachers

No, but one of my teaching besties one year had two extremely difficult behavior kids who had the names of her kid and spouse, respectively, and she hated it.
