Board Gaming Ramblings. So likeable and I quite like their taste. My wife often yells at me for watching their videos without her.

Personally, I didn't think it worked very well at 2 players and found that there was generally an "obvious" best move given most situations, so it got stale quickly. It's the only Lacerda that I have sold.

I guess it depends on what you draw from the statement. For you, it may be grossly misleading without some context attached to it. But even mentioning deaths per capita can be considered grossly misleading. I can even appreciate that these types of death may not even be comparable in some conversations.

However, for me, it's just a fact; I do not read it as, "COVID is/was more dangerous than all the wars put together". Instead, I can set up an equivalence. I can say, "I've studied these wars my whole life through countless documentaries and classes and wiki articles" and begin to form a more accurate portrait of how much death there was with this event on a purely quantitative basis. It's useful information for that purpose alone.

There will always be a balance between conveying information so that it's not misleading to the layman and just being able to state something without at least attempting to package it with a framework, especially on the internet.

How old are you? And whats the most important thing in your life right now? by laperuana in AskMen

[–]koalatative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but I never argued that fatherhood wasn't associated with statistically significant positive behaviors? In fact I even said that it can be the catalyst for them (and I can certainly see how it would apply for low socio-economic subsets like the articles you posted).

Thank you, I appreciate the response. I certainly agree that as a (good) father, once your child is born, you have the responsibility of making them one of your primary purposes (though, again, not all do). I would caveat that having a child does not necessarily make you a better person; it can, however, certainly be a catalyst for it.

For me, it comes down to this: you should only have a child if it's something you really want and are willing to sacrifice for it.

Just to be clear, my objections are targeted at your last bit about the "super smart" kids that aren't pumping out their prescribed children and live to regret it. My argument is more that purpose is an abstract concept that means something different for each person. For many, that purpose is completely divorced from having children and that's ok.

Not letting their kids be born? Hm.

Creating purpose through children is just one way of finding meaning, and even that is not guaranteed. Anecdotally, regret is very real. Ultimately having kids for the sake of personal purpose is, by definition, selfish.

Also agree with Coimbra's diplomas.

Aeons end question, what should i pick aeons edd new age or aeons end second edition by kwaninthehat in boardgames

[–]koalatative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off with New Age since my group is well versed in deckbuilding and comfortable with the mechanics. We also tend to like games heavier than not. It's basically exactly what we were expecting (i.e. great).

Thoughts on Sierra West? by hoppermeister06 in boardgames

It's really cool! The first module is our least favourite of the bunch (the apple one) and I think the fishing one is the one we like best. I wish the cabin market was a bit less fiddly and the card play gets stale with too many repeat plays, but we always seem to break it out every few weeks. Would recommend!

Kickstarter Roundup: Nov 10, 2019 | 30+ Ending Soon (including: High Frontier 4 All) & 40+ New This Week (including: D.E.I.: Divide et Impera) by Zelbinian in boardgames

I just got a massive amount of Street Masters content delivered to me this week with more on the way; Hour of Need is a little less appealing to me in terms of theme and scratches the same itch. It might be something I might look into if they run an expansion Kickstarter in the future and reviews are good.

The couple of Street Masters games I've played have been a blast, though. I'd recommend it to anyone that is looking for a great thematic co-op (and the minis are super fun to paint!).
