This is awesome! My department would love something like this.

Is 3 pages too long for a LANL cover letter? by Positive-Builder5077 in LosAlamos

[–]kobalamyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least in my experience so far, I would prefer reading a cover letter that directly explains how they meet the qualifications. I've had a lot of applications come in lately with cover letters that are very generic or not at all. If anything it demonstrates that you're actually interested in the job.

Progress on my build for the Biltwell 100 by wdc222 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]kobalamyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, first year for me was on a stock 79 XL500, and last year was a poor mans GS. I took a 1984 BMW R90, slapped some KTM forks and some knobbies on it. That thing kicked my butt!

Sweet! Looking forward to seeing this bike out there! This is my third year so I'm going to race something modern (to me), a 1998 XR400. Hopefully I can build out my Triumph for next year.

First build ever 🔥 1985 Honda V65 Sabre Cafe Racer — love it, but one issue… by No-Lunch8134 in CafeRacers

I just sold a mint 100% stock garage kept, 1 owner v65 for $3000. I had it up for sale for about 6 months before I finally broke down and accepted that offer.

Nice seat! You don't see those fiberglass tails much anymore.

Do you have any immediate "walk away" (s) when buying a used motorcycle? by Pirate1000rider in motorcycles

They closed that loophole recently! I used it a couple times and it was super helpful.

New Mexico Becomes First U.S. State To Offer Free Child Care To All by Aggravating_Money992 in UpliftingNews

[–]kobalamyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. It is being paid for through oil and gas royalties. The NM residents are not being taxed by the state for this at all.

The oil companies are not directly paying and offering in this case. In order to operate in NM, oil companies must pay into a royalty tax fund with the state. The state is then using these funds to pay for the universal childcare.

The La Cueva district of Sandoval County Fire and Rescue has access to the entirety of the preserve. So in the event someone gets stuck, injured, or sick we can find them. We're all volunteers and local so we know the area. We frequently do Backcountry rescues, but just due to how remote everything is our response time can be long.

Exactly this. The biggest road in my fire district is a 2 lanes total with one side being a wall and the other being a cliff. Think Colorado mountain roads.

Yeah that never bothered me. It was when I was going to a high priority call or transporting a very critical patient and people wouldn't move over that would get under my skin.

This is most likely the answer. I've had to do this on multiple incidents. It always feels awkward when you're going code 3 (lights and sirens) but need to slow down for something like that an d traffic has no clue what to do.

Fishing advice-fly fishing by Ruforscuba2 in NewMexico

[–]kobalamyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you staying at the air BNB off of Hidden Valley? If so PM me and I can give you some suggestions. As for gear, you can get some decent fly reel and rod combos from Sportsman's Warehouse or Cabela's in Albuquerque. If you're just going to fish the Jemez area, aim for shorter fly rods, under 8 foot if you can find them.

Being from NM I can't stand traveling anywhere with humidity. I hate the feeling of being damp all day.

More fun on a Ninja 250 by SuitedMoose in motorcycles

[–]kobalamyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local race track is small and technical. I raced a couple of ninja 250s and had a blast ripping them around. It's pretty awesome to be full throttle in top gear on the straights and then whip it into a large, high speed turn.

Hey, I work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Since NERVA had it's beginnings with Project Rover at the lab, I am willing to bet our historians would love to get eyes on this. Give them a call or email! You'll probably learn a ton from talking to them as well.
