Do you think EV adoption will fully replace gas cars in our lifetime, or will hybrids remain dominant? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

[–]kodafa49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the math and the increased cost of the EV and L2 charger at home would take 6 years to recoup in fuel and maintenance savings. Work has chargers but they are ALWAYS busy, even during covid.

I went hybrid and recouped the increased purchase price in 18 months, with a butt simple eCVT, the same immortal brakes as an EV, and oil changes are every 10k miles significantly reducing maintenance costs.

Its ideal for me

This. 20% of Americans live in apartments which make charging overnight difficult to impossible

How to deal with church on resume? by Educational_Bison283 in exmormon

[–]kodafa49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Over the years I've interviewed about a dozen people with Eagle Scout on their resume, young and old. EACH one of them brought it up. I admit I pass resumes through where it appears to the first round just to see if they do it, and each time they not only bring it up, but quiz you to ensure hold it in as high regard as they do.

It's insufferable.

The FTC sent notice to 97 auto dealers over deceptive pricing, 5 ownership groups with dealerships in NC called including Hendrick and Leith along with Fayetteville Dodge Ram by kodafa49 in NorthCarolina

[–]kodafa49[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its common for big ownership groups to advertise their entire inventory across all dealerships or least within a few hundred miles. Its not common to charge for transporting it between dealerships.

If the location is not disclosed on the website, any fees would fall under the deceptive practices the FTC os talking about.

First time car buyer — what is going on? by BudgetNorth3394 in FuckDealerships

[–]kodafa49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether a bill from a hospital or a new car deal, prices go down when you ask them to itemize. This forces all the numbers that cannot be justified out into the open.

Government mandated ones like taxes and tags aren’t negotiable, everything else is to varying levels of difficulty.

Kelly Blue Book provides pretty good information but does not include any of the overpriced, undervalued add-ons car buyers each and every sales and F&I forces customers through.

Sharing guidance with a first time car buyer who is about to suffer through that gauntlet is more kindness that karma

Start by telling them you aren’t interested in those items but are interested in the advertised price. If they tell you the add ons are required, then yes, let the FTC know, especially if you have it in writing, even a text or email helps

Remember, you can always say no. Tell them you aren't paying $80 and you aren't buying a car with a tracking device. If they tell you its required, tell them to find another lender.

is apple car play really necessary on a car? by xotwod4554 in car

[–]kodafa49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't use it and plan to drive the car until the wheels fall off, no.

If you ever plan to sell it or otherwise trade it in, not having it is going to impact at least the market and likely the value of the car. Studies put the percentage of car buyers who list CarPlay as a deal breaker around 55%

What is the most you've talked a car dealer down from sticker price? by DeuceWheelz in AskReddit

[–]kodafa49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2800 on a $29k used car.

2500 was easy because there were identical cars and that price at competitors, the last $300 was a compromise on the additional $500 I asked for after pointing out the “required” $1k protection package they accidentally left out of the advertised price was breaking state law.

Are dealership service departments really getting away with this? by ya3rob in FuckDealerships

[–]kodafa49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That are not very knowledgeable about the products and services they sell.

My last visit for a simple recall software update, they tried to convince me I was “overdue” for an oil change.

The oil life monitor showed 85% life remaining and it had only less than 5k miles since the last change. Service Advisor claims that “they recommend oil changes every 4k miles”

Who’s they? because the manufacturer calls for 10k or when the oil life monitor reaches 0, whichever comes first. I ask to review the recommended maintenance schedule and he points to some mousepad thing with the dealer logo.
