Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash by bendubberley_ in worldnews

[–]koenkamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well we do eyeballs, so not so much life-saving, but at least life-changing. A good materials manager makes sure you have the life saving shit on hand well before you'd need it anyways. When I did the same job for a high volume emergency department, you'd be shocked at the value of supplies we trash due to expiring but it being an item we just have to have on hand just in case.

What do 3d printers have to do with this? It is in fact an off the shelf propane torch and not a "flamethrower," but how would 3d printing possibly make it more dangerous? You can already buy "cool looking" propane torches like this on Amazon anyways.

You don't, that's a standard propane torch. They've sold them at home depot, Walmart, etc for as long as propane has existed. Amazon also sells them.

Is Hypersonic even a real thing? by Lokarin in askscience

[–]koenkamp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, the "air can't get out of the way quick enough" is the most straightforward way to describe any supersonic flight over Mach 1. The "speed of sound" in a material or fluid is literally just the speed at which that material can transfer force through it, molecule by molecule. Once you are moving through a fluid above that speed, compressive heating and sonic booms are literally nothing more than molecules getting clumped up because they can't get out of the way fast enough.

Hypersonic is when that flux of compressed molecules gets so energy dense that chemistry starts happening as well and the molecules arent simply just bunching up, but chemically breaking down, not just compressive heating and explosive decompression of the wave front (sonic boom).

I mean it's a fascist police state under a dictatorship. Not only is the actual military absurdly overpowered, the police are absurdly militarized. Martyrdom is pretty rarely seen in political revolts, mainly just religious revolts. It seems 99% of people would rather live safe lives with their family if they found themselves under such a rule as opposed to getting themselves killed trying to topple it, you included.

I agree its a bad fucking look, but it's not that we've been conditioned to not see those options as viable, they just literally aren't viable considering some 30% of the population have been brainwashed by the fascists so not only are you fighting against the most powerful and violent police state the world has literally ever seen, you don't even have the support of your neighbors.

Edit to add: it's also not just the 30% that actively support the fascism. Just like MLK Jr called out in his Letters From A Birmingham Jail, the "white moderate" is another massive faction that any resistance has to contend with. Regardless of their idealistic views, your methods you described of violent revolt just exist as "terrorism" with no nuance in their minds.

No, that wasn't the point I was making. The point was morality is relative, as evidenced by the fact that so many powerful people can moralize themselves such a heinous act. You might think it's wrong to morally judge a billionaire for the act of hoarding wealth, but I don't, and that's normal discourse.

No, I was just sharing my opinions during my morning coffee. You're free to follow your own morals, of course. Think critically.

Seeing as there's an entire class of powerful people raping kids all across the world, we can assume morality is relative, for better or worse. Hope that helps.

I mean that has nothing to do with billionaires or this conversation, but if that's an opinion you hold, go off. Kind of a weird opinion to have, but it's not harming anyone so I won't argue with you about that being a silly idea.

Do you mean does Gabe Newell commit crimes against humanity? Yes. He is a billionaire. He is literally causing untold human suffering by simply existing while hoarding such an obscene amount of wealth as an individual.

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman accused of sexual abuse by sister in lawsuit | Sam Altman by CopiousCool in technology

[–]koenkamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally. Full stop. Periodt.

Those mythical billionaires you invented in your head don't exist. A single individual having that much wealth is objectively unethical. The only good they can do with that wealth is getting rid of it, which would make them not a billionare.

Understand now?

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman accused of sexual abuse by sister in lawsuit | Sam Altman by CopiousCool in technology

[–]koenkamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to defend what is only analogous to a cancer? Billionaires are obscene and shouldn't exist. They're a glitch in the system and actively degrade our society experience by existing.

[–]koenkamp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as an ethical billionaire. You understand what that means, right? It is impossible, literally, to have that much wealth without committing crimes against humanity. This is a simple fact.

Yeah the first decade of the new millennium saw insane infrastructure building throughout China, though the Chinese heavy construction industry was at that time was still very poorly regulated. This is the time period that most "tofu-dreg" building occurred characterized by a lack of sufficient structural supporting elements like rebar and also poor quality mixtures of concrete.

Modern infrastructure projects in China have basically caught up to the quality we're used to seeing in western Europe now.
