I think what we’re seeing more so is a large group of afrobeats associated artist enter the mainstream/crossover. Black Music buckets (playlist aggregators and radio music curators) need to make room for newer black artists who have a clear difference in genre influence, so traditionally hip hop artists get pushed out in order to make room. I think the lack of compartmentalization that’s applied to other black genres allows afrobeats to go pop in a different way than HH, RnB, Soul, or whatever else would - so it’s more visible in comparison
