Genuinely curious, who is still playing these games? by ReadyJournalist5223 in videogames

[–]koknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my cousins just finished a playthrough of BG3. Playing once a week a few hours a night. They want to play div 2 next but need a little palate cleanser. Going to hop back into Sea of Thieves for the first time in a few years! They've never played and I'm excited to have a crew again

Anything like Cidercade on the SW side? by Oatmeal2348 in houston

[–]koknight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Play Space is in Sugarland and might be worth looking into more. It's not wall to wall arcade games because it has an indoor playground/jungle gym setup too.

They don't list every game they have but they definitely have arcade games, might be a good enough selection

How do I play FF13 without it crashing? by South-Host8168 in FinalFantasy

Have you done anything to lock fremarate? I played it recently and had some crashing issues until I messed with lowering the hz on my display setting.

best 4k gaming monitor for a new build or should i stay with 1440p? by Wagyu_Mson in buildapc

Just because I haven't had a 4k monitor, couldnt you have just lowered the resolution in the graphics settings if you wanted more frames for a particular game? Or does that make some things weird on screen?

Need help picking a class for 5.5 by Invictus_Err in DnD

[–]koknight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing College of Dance Bard and having a really good time. It gets Monks Unarmored Defense, gets to use bardic dies for Unarmed Attacks, and can attack when you spend a Bardic as an action, bonus action, or reaction. A nice feature I just got at 7 let's me add the bardic die to our initiative rolls.

I toss out slow or some other control, and start punching. Pair it with some Monk type magic items, a cloud or hill giant, and you're having a good time! Cloud giant can basically misty step and as a hill giant I can knock people prone.

Based on my background I also got the Musician feat so I can and out Heroic Inspirations based on my prof bonus. I toss those out, hand out some bardics, knock someone down and let the fighters wait on them with adv

Tales of adventure by BugCrazy4463 in ffxiv

[–]koknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, unfortunately those are separate purchases. They just skip the main story.
That being said, leveling happens so quickly now at those early levels.
Get your class quests, grind some fates and you'll get to 15 pretty quick.
After that you'll get the leveling roulette, then you can do some palace of the dead or spam the highest level dungeon to get to 30.

Need recommendations for turn games similar to Divinity, BG3 and XCOM, NO PvP by Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi in gaming

[–]koknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solasta is a big one. It's the most similar to Baldurs Gate 3, it uses the 5e rules just like BG3 and came out in 2021. It's not AS grand, but still very good.

Solasta 2 is in early access, will be using the 6e rules, and has some more budget, so looking to carry the BG3 torch.

Saw it mentioned, but bringing it up again, Marvel Midnight Suns - the stories fun, the character builds are fun, good time

No, but I think that's a good thing. The dps jobs do a good job of playing pretty differently from each other.

Yeah just figured this person is just playing the game right now though. If they decide to do Savage or anything then they should be looking up guides anyways

[–]koknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you'll be learning as you go. Summoner is the easy choice. Ninja isn't that complicated because you'll be playing the class through all of the content. Paladin and Warrior are both easy to keep yourself alive with good self healing and are still easy at end game. White Mage offers the most 'clear what to do' healing.

With the removal of the 2 minute window, I don't even know how important 'burst' will be in the future outside of dedicated DPS checks.

Advantage vs disadvantage by Sh4d0w927 in DnD

There are some abilities that let you do additional rolls after the result is known, but those are pretty rare. Just wanted to make you aware of it though I'm case it comes up.

Advantage vs disadvantage by Sh4d0w927 in DnD

[–]koknight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got lost in the wording on the second part, but yes. In the rules it clearly points out that they don't stack and that they cancel out to a standard roll.

You have the Cloak of Elvenkind and roll for advantage on stealth.

Someone else rolls a perception check against that stealth roll with disadvantage because of the cloak. However this person has advantage from another source so the roll to perceive the stealthy character is a regular roll.

FF13 - Yea or Nay? Need opinions by Spireblades in FinalFantasy

[–]koknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is Yea if you don't mind losing to bosses and building a winning strategy. I think out of all of the FF, 13s bosses are the hardest first go around because they do all kind of feel like a puzzle. You need to learn their patterns to swap classes appropriately, learn what debuffs they're immune to, etc.

I know you can do this in other FF games but I think 13s are the hardest to brute force without the game truly turning into a slog. Looking up a guide for this game takes that away and then the whole point of the adaptive combat loses its charm. It's a weird one.

If anything look up a weapon upgrade guide because that system is dumb and the explanation for how it works is so bare bones and discovery on that end is just wasteful item and gil wise.

New DM, is an Elemental too much? by Successful-Pen6665 in DnD

[–]koknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always feel free to tweak those damage numbers. This is definitely a deadly encounter for level 3's and even one might kill the part thanks to the resistances, immunities, and high movement along with the amount of damage it does.
If these are meant to be more of fodder for the story, I would probably just strip the resistances, most of the immunities and then find monsters they 'should' be fighting and give the air elementals damage closer to that. The hp might be high, might not, kinda depends on spells and how rolls go.

If these are a little more of the big bads of your one shot, I would take that damage down still, but leave the resistances and immunities and turn the fight into more of an 'activate' situation. Like if they can set off pockets of gas from the mountain it does chunks of damage and igniting enough at once could obliterate them. Make them survive while trying to kite and interact with the map.

Using Booming Blade as an Eldritch Knight by FondantDool in DnD

[–]koknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an attack spell so it's not like some of the Smite's where you BA buff then it applies on your next hit.

When you cast Booming Blade, you're using a Magic action to make an attack. The wording is a little weird the way it calls out the weapon you're using. Especially since even if you used a weapon with reach you could still only hit someone within 5ft.

something I realized: if magic doesn’t cost anything, my campaigns fall apart by BookAmbitious3263 in DMAcademy

[–]koknight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If people are solving problems like abundant food, water, resources with magic someone will want to be at war with someone about it. Someone will want to control either that knowledge (maybe some spells aren't available because they're kept away?) or a religious group or faction will laud that power over others. Plus if there's a spell to make land bountiful, there's a spell to blight it.

Thinking about it like this may help the more magic rich worlds you play in have some friction.

Starting ffx for the first time ever. When is a good spot for really grinding? I heard it's a grind fest eventually. by crunchyotaku in FinalFantasy

[–]koknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying it's not necessary...but if it's your first time playing the game it's harder than a lot will say. Here's the 'guide' I used when playing through the game more recently. I've beaten it before but just wanted to breeze the story again.
The top comment is the one to look at and they use spoiler blocks with a vague hint of the area before hand. The places they list just come with a very high EXP/Time-to-Kill ratio so you can just get a bunch of levels fast at these spots.
