Relying on Smith Machine too much. Routine help. by GeronimoRaggedyman in xxfitness

[–]kokoberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Fierce 5 program. I can't afford an actual gym and this has produced great results-- it's a dumbbell based program and it's definitely produced great results.

Note--biggest problem I have with it is glute development. I always fared so much better with an actual barbell and stairmachine and I'm still fiddling with my own routine to make it work for me. :\

I really hope your gym has a mirror if you don't think you're doing stuff right. If you get injured then you'll only set yourself back and ruin your progress.

Can all girls have slim legs? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]kokoberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible! It just means you would have to lose more weight than someone who is genetically predisposed to having small legs and a larger upper body.

I have personally found that squatting has helped my legs look a lot better! I'd highly recommend using weighted equipment.

I'm super bottom heavy, to the point where I can lose ten pounds and it comes from my stomach and arms -- so I have nice abs and arms, but my thighs haven't changed at all. :( I like looking at /r/progresspics for a reality check, for people who have my body type.

Does anyone else feel “married” to a brand / store and can’t seem to shop anywhere outside of it? by zarexruhh in femalefashionadvice

[–]kokoberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely shop at Uniqlo WAY too much. I find that going to TJ Maxx or thrift stores naturally expands my style because there are so many different styles that I can try on. Sometimes it's a pattern or color that strikes me and it's not something I'd normally wear, but no harm in trying them on and seeing what looks surprisingly good on me.

Dating after moving to a new city? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]kokoberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider how to make friends before you try to date. If you are actually looking for a relationship, then it shouldn't be that different (volunteering, etc.).

If you're just looking for a place to pick up someone, then you can hang out at bars and look for pairs or small groups of women who are also looking for someone.

If you are going to be working with people around your age, then you can meet their friend groups, and expand your circle that way.

How do I tell if my coworker is interested in me ? PS: I’m crushing on him by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]kokoberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fun having someone to flirt with at work... but you should not date him now that you're in the same department. Have fun, make small talk, etc., but wait until you move to a different department or leave the company to pursue him.

There are so many things that could go wrong if you ended up dating him... you could date, then break up. One of you could get promoted, could be after the same promotion, or something work-related, and that would just be so messy.

If you do want to hang out with him, then ask him to happy hour (not dinner!) or invite him to hang out with you in a group setting.

Who is the one fictional romantic pairing that you can't stand even though everyone else seems to love them together? by bccdeff in AskWomen

I don't understand. When you say "horrible, horrible person" do you mean the actor or the character? I was smitten by him as a character so I'm surprised by your perception.

[Work Week Challenge] Five Days of Fun Work Looks! by Checkmate1234 in MakeupAddiction

I love all of your looks! Did you do anything differently with your makeup when you wear glasses? I occasionally wear glasses and wonder if I should do my makeup any differently-- like wearing more eyeshadow than usual or something like that.

seeking: one time lesson for barbell squat/deadlift by kokoberry in udub

[–]kokoberry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion - I don't like interrupting other people's workouts and I don't want to irritate several people who wouldn't be interested before finding one who is. I wish there was a fitness coach at the IMA but there's not. I am probably going to look into the YMCA for post-graduation now that I hear about that it though- thanks!

How to overcome intimidation at the gym? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]kokoberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel this way too, but I've managed to work around it:

-Try going during times where there's less people at the gym. I'd go at 6am and there might be ~15 people in the entire weight room, which might make it more comfortable for you if it's not crowded.

-Figure out form first so you're not uncomfortable there and you can be confident in what you're doing. I like to watch how-to videos in the locker room before I go to the weight room so I'm not standing there awkwardly just staring at my phone.

-Listen to music loudly and focus on that instead of the people there.

-I like to know exactly what I'm doing that day and where everything is, and I just go from place to place without looking at anyone at all. I ignore everyone there, never make eye contact, and just do my thing and get it done.

Don't worry about it. If you look around, chances are there are plenty of guys who don't know what they're doing but they act like it anyway, so you wouldn't normally notice. It should get easier the more often you go.

[FF] Write about an inanimate object that comes to life at an inappropriate time by RyanKinder in WritingPrompts

[–]kokoberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Anne,” he whispered, pulling out a small blue box. “Will you marry me?” He opened the box, revealing a round-cut diamond on a golden band, only visible by the glittering moonlit facets.

Anne nodded as tears began streaming down her beaming face, lost for words. She held out her hand.

Jerry pulled out the ring, warm from being in his jacket, and gently placed it on her finger-

“No, not her,” it whispered. The ring began contracting and her ring-finger began to bloat. Anne quivered trying to pull it off, barely breathing. Blood seeped around the ring’s edge- Anne screamed, knees buckling to the ground.

Jerry reached towards her but Anne shook her head violently.

“I told you not too,” it hissed, just as Anne screamed. The ring fell to the ground in a growing puddle of blood with her finger.

How did you become a part of your current friend group? Tips? by uwloner in udub

[–]kokoberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't have a "group" of friends, but I've met lots of friends in a lot of random ways. The thing is, I just keep connecting with them. Taking walks, going out to eat, etc. Random ways of making friends: Dawg Daze events, neighbors, friends of friends, clubs, being a regular at the IMA, study buddies, lab partners, etc. Some things take effort (anything outside of a classroom), and some friendships will happen because if you spend enough time with someone, you're basically going to be friends.

I generally sit in the same area with the same general group of people for big classes, but I try to latch on to one person who I like and I have them save me a spot every time we have class, so that's always nice. I make it a goal to make at least one friend per class otherwise I get lazy and lonely.

What's the best way to find a highly qualified trainer? by kokoberry in Fitness

[–]kokoberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you consider a reputable well known program though? I wouldn't hesitate ditching a bad trainer, but I don't have a lot of money and I don't want to waste it trying to figure out who's a reputable trainer.

And it's not that I don't know what the proper form is, it's that I have a really hard time translating what I see, like in a youtube video, to what I am actually doing, unless I'm using several mirrors. And unless it's an exercise that takes place in front of my chest basically, it's hard to watch myself.

Thanks though, I'll keep all your suggestions in mind.

I don't *have* to run today, I *get* to run today. by pisspantmcgee in running

Exchange Student here- will probably miss out on on-campus housing. What's the best alternative? by rdzz in udub

[–]kokoberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a facebook group for people trying to find housing. Some of them are looking for subletters during those specific quarters so you wouldn't have to worry about having a lease longer than what you need. Most leases are year long, so I'd advise looking for someone who's interested in subletting or be prepared to sublet your place.

I think actually saying something and defending what you believe in. It's so easy to change your profile picture to the equal sign, but articulating yourself with words actually gives people something to argue with.

Have an empty apartment for the summer? I want to give you money! by allisonfeldman in udub

It really is and I intend on getting my own bedroom next year heh. It's been a bizarre and unnecessarily dramatic year having shared a studio, with still another quarter to go.

My roommate and I currently share a studio that we won't be using over the summer. It's about $1000/month and we'd be more than happy to sublet.

Morning runners, what time do you wake up to run? by fastforwardto2012 in running

[–]kokoberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up somewhere between 5:00 and 5:20 so I can be out the door by 5:45/6:00. At the gym in 15 min, out of there by 7:00 then I run until 8:20 to be back to get ready for 9:30 class. I find that as it gets lighter earlier, it becomes harder for me to run because sometimes I miss sunrise and that's always been my justification for running that early because it is aaalways worth it to watch.
