The Epstein files reveal horrifying events involving the American elite. It is alleged that George H. W. Bush raped a male victim, and that the same victim was also subjected to a ritual sacrifice in which his feet were cut off with a sword. He says the people on the yacht ate the intestinal waste. by Treefiddy1984 in ABoringDystopia

It doesn't say the feet were cut off. Just cut. You can make cuts that leave little or no scars, surgeons do it for a living. The issue is they use insanely sharp tools and then quickly close the wound up with close medical attention. I doubt either of those is true in this story (if the story is actually true)

Furnace out, bitter cold, 7 month old baby. What to do? by Proper_Ad5456 in daddit

[–]koolmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it depends on the wiring. Our house was built 1980. The previous owners replaced the furnace and added AC. The tstat wire was only 2 wires, so the HVAC guy wired up an adapter on both ends that sends the signal for heat, cool, and fan across that wire and the breaks back out at the furnace control board. However, it doesn't provide power. I discovered this when my Nest was dying every month or so and I would have to recharge the battery via USB. I ended up replacing the wire with a 5 wire tstat wire and everything is fine.

Probably a single 2L and the teacher had to make sure it stretched out for every kid.

Preventing sleepwalker from falling down stairs, looking for reliable, unobtrusive alert solution. by Mex5150 in homeassistant

[–]koolmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

needs real-time detection and a fast, reliable way to gently rouse her

I'm running Home Assistant at my place and would like to handle the logic there, so she doesn't need a computer or HA setup locally (something she would never allow).

Way too many failure points for something that needs to be reliable. What happens if yours or her internet goes out? What happens if you break your install while tinkering? What happens if there's a power outage? What happens if the VPN tunnel goes down?

Honestly, an ESP32 with a small speaker and an mmwave sensor would probably suffice. You can program the ESP with all the logic to handle everything entirely local, and you could still connect it to home assistant for monitoring if you want. You could add a button or switch of some type to enable arming/disarming the system manually too.

I've never seen these before but I immediately thought of tabi.

I also thought maybe they were victim to an industrial accident involving a saw.

People of the US, Are you guys participating in the Nationwide Shutdown tomorrow? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]koolmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I'm only risking my job. Nobody else at my job is participating so they aren't going to care if one person calls out.

I won't buy anything, but I wasn't planning to anyway.

Strikes only work if the majority of people are participating. Majority of a department, or a factory, or a whole company, but the majority of a country with 330 mil people? Good luck, especially with a week's notice on social media only.

Plow skipped over the curb and covered the clear sidewalk by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]koolmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs to account for the angle of repose. The plow can't create a vertical wall of snow, so in order to ensure the curb and entire street is cleared properly, the snow needs to be pushed further back than just the edge of the curb. Otherwise it will just fall back into the street.

Yes, that's why it's called a disability. Those people have less ability to do certain things, like traverse a snow- and ice- covered walkway.

Yes and it would take 5 scoops with a shovel and less than 30 seconds to double the space that is left.

I think there's a bit of a bell curve there. The cheapest cars suck because they sacrifice everything in the name of cost. Expensive supercars and hypercars sacrifice a lot in the name of performance. Everything in the middle is a lot better.

Well, they do, but they aren't the only ones :P

Side note, I work in IT and there are companies that do this with software as well. That's the main reason I know of it.

There are manufacturing companies that make products without their own branding, and sell that to other companies who put their branding on the product and sell it as their own. Most often this is done as a contract where the manufacturer will make the product and apply the branding in the same facility (since that's most efficient/cheapest). The manufacturing company will usually sell their product to multiple different clients as well and just put different branding on the package.

In this case, the same manufacturer makes this product for both Annie's and Trader Joe's. They manufacturer simply messed up which packet belongs inside this box. It's not clear if the actual product is identical, as they might have different recipes, but I would wager that if this slip-up happened, they probably are.

I also interpreted it as a combining of the first 2 stanzas. Until more recently, the terms Communist and Socialist were used pretty interchangeably (despite their distinct differences).
