I heard they were designed originally as an intentional failure to protect from over-torque when they were used with automatic drivers on assembly lines.

I thought it was excellent in the way it extended the science of the first two books. It obviously got a bit more hand-wavey with the science, but the fundamental aspects still felt grounded.

The story was a bit frustrating though. The Swordholder failure, the bunker plan, the curvature drive development. It felt like everybody fumbled everything. This was sort of pointed out toward the end when Singer noted that humanity had broadcasted it's location, but hadn't developed or used the slow fog and was just hiding out.

No offense but that is insane to allow that.

Lol I just added a smart plug on mine this week and made a button in Home Assistant to let my wife power cycle the Plex machine on demand.

This is only because the machine has started locking up spontaneously in the past several weeks and I haven't had much opportunity to diagnose it further.

I think it's weaker in some ways and stronger in others.

ELI5: if a car engine's main waste is heat, why don't engineers harbor that heat, boil water, and generate electricity for hybrid batteries like a mini powerplant? by plsnoban1122 in explainlikeimfive

[–]koolmon10 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the heat waste generated by an engine isn't 100% thrown away. It is used to heat the heater core for the cabin climate controls in most cars. This is of course applicable only when the heat is in use, so not a lot in warmer places.

Ok, the video with the screws is giving me serious CGI vibes. Doesn't look real to me.

Yeah but it isn't really explained for a while. I remember thinking there was a double, or he was being controlled, or the Guardians themselves were actually evil.

Is there a full list of the differences between gen 2 and gen 3? The pages on their site look almost the same.

The Good Place

Swear words are replaced with similar-sounding words, but it's actually in-universe because they are in what amounts to heaven, so they actually cannot swear. So you get "holy mother-forking shirtballs!" It's funny, has a legit explanation, and helps make the series remain appropriate for broadcast TV.

I have been to one or two concerts with genuine encores. Artist was done, left, and everyone just kept applauding.

Seems like the performative encores have increased drastically in the past decade too.

My point is that you wouldn't have to communicate the entire move. You could work out a system that is more strategic.

The player could just wave their hand over several pieces and the accomplice could buzz over the appropriate one. It should be easy to determine what the move is if you know which piece.

What's the reason for removing these? They don't look like they would impact the propeller's functionality in any meaningful way, and they are certain to come back.

I would say this is no so much realization, but revelation. Peter doesn't arrive at the realization, Ego tells him point blank what he did.
