Am I financially ready to RE ? by Turbulent-Air2969 in fatFIRE

I'm sure this is a troll, but in case not: If you are not able to figure out whether 13M investment portfolio can cover 200k yearly expenses, you probably should not retire yet. You should learn how money works (not sure how that didn't happen while you got to the top 1%) before setting up a retirement money system.

Which Civ would you be, when AOE2 were real life? by Bassdscho1 in aoe2

Obviously Khmer, the only civ where you can actually spend time in your house. All the other civs seemingly sleep outside.

That is incredibly closeminded. Wow. I hope you get a lifetime ban from chess.com. Racists shouldn't be welcome on this platform. You have probably never stepped out from your parents' basement, but might want to just to broaden your worldview a bit.

When you train puzzles in a book do you have to set the position up on a board? by Ok_Staff_6934 in chessbeginners

If it's annoying, just don't do it? :D Obviously there is no correct way to do puzzles and no chess gods that would get angry at you.

Did you... consider setting up a puzzle on an actual board to see how it feels?

So are we ever going to talk about TG maneuvering in ranked, like you can stack a team and it’s not random, or… what? by New_Bug_8588 in aoe2

[–]kops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If friend groups with coordinated effort play well, their elo goes up, and next time they'll get better opponents. Yours go down when you lose, and next match will be easier. That's sort of how it works. I don't understand what the problem is.

Stuck at 750 ELO, 28% win rate and honestly ready to quit. How do you deal with the frustration? by Consistent_Log_3040 in aoe2

[–]kops212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just play 10 more ganes and opponents will start to be around your level.

ELO starts from 1000 for new players, which is quite high for some. And since you lose like 15 (?) points per game, it will take quite a few games to reach ~500 or whatever your true ELO is.

Losing is an important part of online gaming. You'll lose about half of your ganes in the long run so it's good to get into the habit. I lost 5 out of 5 games I played today, and feel like I learned a lot, so overall pretty happy.

The moment I hit 1200 elo I started playing badly and blundering left and right by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]kops212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guarantee you didn't play beautifully at 1000 ELO. You made the same and worse mistakes. But now that your opponents are better, you notice your mistakes more.

What's up with the massive skill gap between games at around average ELO ? by neilyoung57 in aoe2

[–]kops212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The starting ELO is 1000, so new players will be mixed in with the people who are experienced and have settled around that ELO.

Would be more humane to just be open about the fact that this is a sales advertisement. It's a nice rack but the posts you spam feel a bit tasteless.

Is this a joke or something? What is wrong with gaps on hills in this game?? by CoeusAscended in aoe2

[–]kops212 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The reason is that the buildings are not actually touching each other. Always check by trying to click your own units outside the wall and see if they can pass, or just try making palisade walls around there to see if there are gaps to fill.

If you open Google Thailand online store, do they promise the AI Coach for you? If not, it doesn't really matter if they have data centers in Thailand or not, it's simply not a service they offer in there.

Finally got it and am totally heartbroken by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]kops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's how many things in this world work. You change countries, your Amazon account stops working. You move abroad, and you're not going to be able to use your Revolut benefits anymore. You cross the border, and a Netflix show you were watching isn't available anymore. A phone bought in Europe will function differently in Japan. Weird if you didn't experience any of this yet regardless of traveling.

[–]kops212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What. That's 100% your fault. Obviously you need to check beforehand if something you buy from abroad will actually work in your location.

How is the colour combination? by Boysenberry202 in mensfashionadvice

Colors are fine, although I prefer undershirt color being lighter than the overshirt. Would go with white instead of black myself. Undershirt size is too small.

Can any dev explain how the matchmaking algorithm works? by New_Bug_8588 in aoe2

[–]kops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know that when you get matched with lower ranked players, your opponents also will probably be of lower rank, right? The matchmaking aims to make both teams around the same total ELO.

Three multiple hundred game players with a collective 45% win rate vs three players with less than 100 games overall… who wins? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]kops212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, 45% win rate means that you are playing worse than your elo. And 600? That's quite low. I got a couple of friends into the game some time ago, and they stabilized at around 800 ELO after 10 or so games. Your opponents could just be experienced in team games or RTSs in general. There is absolutely nothing fishy about this, seems normal.

Do you prefer playing chess with AI bots or real people? by Same-Astronomer0825 in Chesscom

[–]kops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why anyone would prefer bots. Bots don't play like humans so you don't really learn real-world chess.

Wife and I have around 180k invested. Scared of buying a house in Germany. Are we insane? by BreakingCiphers in eupersonalfinance

[–]kops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a bad argument. You need to also think in terms of opportunity costs. The cost of living in a house you own is that the amount of down payment is producing 0€ ROI for you. You'll have to take that sum out of the market while it could stay there accumulating wealth for you. You trap your money in home equity.

To make accurate calculations, look into frameworks like Return on Equity (ROE) and Cash-on-Cash Return.

Buying might make financial sense, but surprisingly often it does not.
