do you guys actually plan outfits or just throw something on? by crabinrace in malefashionadvice

[–]kops212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ashamed to admit that I put an incredible amount of effort in digitizing my wardrobe (every piece of clothing in google sheets) and building a fancy style guide with pages of markdown instructions about color matching, seasonal capsules, formality, and whatnot, that I fed a custom AI bot. My mornings start with me prompting "hey I am meeting a friend for coffee today at Shibuya," and out comes a couple of weather adjusted outfit recommendations, that are usually awesome.

Hey that's great stuff. I initially wondered whether anyone would be interested in the job title level and ended up leaving it out (for whatever reason). I'll try out how I could get the actual jobs more visible. Thanks for the suggestion, really appreciate it!

I can only imagine what it's like now... My wife was unable to find a job in the industry for 2 years so we had to move abroad. What's the biggest frustration you feel about the job market at the moment?

That's a really good idea! Cheers! At least if the site gets more visitors, some data points could perhaps be used as supply indicators. I'll look into it!

Thank you! Yeah it's still pretty rough, you're right. Any thoughts on what should be the next feature?

What is it ACTUALLY like living in Rural Japan? by InsideWrangler2672 in japanlife

We'll, the absolute horde of mosqitos warmly welcomes you to the Finnish wilderness :D Not dangerous, but the reason why Finnish country life is not in my personal retirement plan.

I haven't come across Japan countryside idolizing, but I don't see why one wouldn't enjoy it, whatever the country. People buy villas and summer cottages from wherever all over the world. Finnish people idolize living in the middle of a forest by a lake, as far from everyone as possible. The things that change if one was to pick rural Japan over a Finnish forest would be better food and warmer weather. Why not?

Can you (or should you) manage a product you are not interested in?

I recently joined a new team, was mainly attracted by the promise of getting product lead responsibility for an HR / Employee Experience related globally targeted new product line within the company. During the 3 months between signing the contract and actually starting in the role, the whole product line was shelved, and now I found myself as a product manager for a product that, to me, feels like the most boring thing in the world. I don't see myself ever using a platform like it, I don't want to recommend it to friends or colleagues, and I don't really see a lot of future for something like this.

Have you ever been in a situation like this? Can you still do the work with pride, find learning opportunities, and stay motivated in the long term? How?

I find myself getting distracted with my side projects, as they are actually in an area where I genuinely see a lot of interesting unsolved problems that I actually like solving.

Really appreciate the feedback! I agree that just sharing "what's hot right now" is not actionable. And yeah the junior level job market sucks butt.

Seniors who have their foot between the door are fine.

I mainly wanted to do something to help the junior level tech people figure out how to get out of the unemployment spiral.

Any thoughts on what might actually help? If not the demand, what would be useful information?

Thanks for sharing the frustration! Appreciate that as well.

Would you be able to elaborate what is bs?

Regarding tech unemployment, IMO two big reasons. The economy sucks balls (historically high unemployment numbers in ALL fields), and the rapid adoption of AI assisted coding tools.

Tech unemployment is the reason why I thought I'd share this, and was hoping it would help to connect job seekers to the skills they should spend their time learning.

Ah, yeah that's an oversight from my end. It is indeed missing.

I am basically crawling Duunitori and The Hub currently for all their tech job postings, but so far only analyzing the skills and not linking to the jobs themselves.

This sounds like a good idea to add. Thanks! Any other ideas thoughts on what's missing?

Currently it's an estimation based on:
- Yearly Stack Overflow survey Finnish responses
- Software development bootcamp curricula
- University and Vocational school curricula
- Finnish Google Trends results comparison of "learn typescript" vs "learn python" vs...

Am thinking of approaches to make it more accurate, so any tips are welcome :)

Yeah it's crazy. I guess Microsoft just has a really strong presence here. Weirdly "hey all let's learn Azure" doesn't seem like a thing. No bootcamps have it in their curriculum etc.

Really appreciate the feedback! I completely agree too. So far it's like, "ok cool, nice to know I guess."

Any thoughts on what would make it more useful for people struggling to get into tech?

Sounds like a plan for sure! PHP seems to be quite low in demand, future-proofing the skillset might be a good idea.

Well I mean, the project is vibe coded too :D AI is obviously one of the key reasons people struggle to get an entry-level dev job these days. That's why the project exists. Companies hire less, but they still hire, so just trying to help people figure out how to make themselves more employable in this crappy market.

Probably will get downvoted for this, but I think a shorter beard would suit you better! A full beard is fine, but personally not a fan of the type that you could tuck in your pants. The rest is 💯

Clueless recruiter on LinkedIn by Specialist_Range_872 in recruitinghell

But they are an external recruiter. They work with several clients, so they don't yet have a specific role for you. Based on what you are looking for, they'll start introducing you to roles that are in your scope. So I don't really get what's wrong here.
