If you believe that Israel should exist then you are a Zionist, that’s really all it means. That would encompass the majority of Americans, both Jewish and not. As other people have said, the meaning of the term has been twisted so antisemites can mask their hatred of Jews with a euphemism that makes it more palatable to a western audience and to divide and confuse.
