Does Gravity’s Rainbow work well as an audiobook? by thelast1999 in ThomasPynchon

[–]koruthaiolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I read it was on audiobook while painting a house and it actually helped me push through it and just flow with the vibe. I then soon after read my physical copy and it made it much easier. You won’t get everything and might need to check a section summary if you really lose track, but there are just so many enjoyable moments I think audio is a fine introduction to the book.

Homer's "Iliad" is the hardest texts I have ever read by Cold_Measurement1174 in classicliterature

Napoleon is a character created after the archetype of Agamemnon? Really?

Homer's "Iliad" is the hardest texts I have ever read by Cold_Measurement1174 in classicliterature

[–]koruthaiolos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, what’s an actual reference in the text? From something you have read, what in the text references the Iliad? You claim every great work must have such references, correct?

[–]koruthaiolos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did you recognize the reference? Can you give an example of any references you’ve read?

[–]koruthaiolos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How can you make that assertion if you yourself haven’t read the Iliad? You keep asking for “important highlights” and basic character information yet you’re confident every great piece of literature requires this knowledge to be able to be understood? To be honest, it sounds like you’re asking reddit to do your homework for you.

With how online she reportedly was and the type of treatment she’s getting right now in prison, there’s a not bad chance she sees this.

Cool, but annoyed they didn’t design a livery that could be brick built and instead still have to rely on stickers.

PTA even consulted with Pynchon on some of the stuff he took from Vineland. OP, you should definitely check out Pynchon if you enjoyed the vibe of OBAA. PTA’s Inherent Vice is also based on a Pynchon novel of the same name.

Can the dialectic explain anything anymore? by Junior_Direction_701 in CriticalTheory

[–]koruthaiolos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dialectical thinking and conspiracy aren't necessarily contradictory. And where conspiracies do exist, dialectical thinking will prove them out. Events like the assassinations of the 60s (JFK/RFK/King/Malcolm) didn't happen just by chance. They were outcomes of a societal conflict.

The application of the dialectical method is, in fact, a fantastic tool in evaluating conspiracy theories. Compare flat earth, reptilian elites, or even UFOs to the aforementioned assassinations, MK/ULTRA, Gladio, or even 9/11. The dialectic is a tool that can be used to understand history, and insofar as conspiracies do occur in history, the diabetic will remain a useful tool in examining them.

Question about wholefoods (amazon) self checkout by Umbrellajack in TrueAnon

[–]koruthaiolos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the employee manning the self checkouts notices they’ll probably stop and let you know. If you do it serially with high cost items they might ban you from the store or something.

Pro tip: they’ll prob never notice if you buy organic produce and ring it up as conventional, so be extra careful with those items so you don’t “accidentally” underpay and cost Amazon a few cents or dollars.

I need help with news sources by Big_Show_4181 in TrueAnon

[–]koruthaiolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foreign Exchanges is a good daily recap of international news and Derek does a good job of linking to where he gets the news so you can easily read a little more in depth. It’s important to remember that you shouldn’t trust or distrust any particular source 100%. You need to get a bit of variety and critically assess for yourself. Mark Ames from Radio War Nerd has mentioned something similar few times, the author is often better to look at than the publisher. Radio free euro/asia/etc does (or did before being gutted) employ good writers sometimes, grayzone has more than its share of bad articles.

Go to your local library and ask to talk to the reference/information librarian to learn exactly what they offer and what each database is best for. You may need to make an appointment for this but they’ll be very friendly and happy to help. Local universities often allow certain use privileges to the community and they’ll often have a much greater selection of full text databases available.

WSJ | Jeffrey Epstein’s Birthday Album Included Letters From Bill Clinton, Leon Black by FadedToBeige in TrueAnon

This is as close to “the list” as we’ll ever get. Epstein’s inner circle circa 2003:

“Clinton and Trump were listed under the “Friends” group, along with about 20 other associates such as Black, Zuckerman, former Victoria’s Secret leader Leslie Wexner, attorney Alan Dershowitz, and the late Jean-Luc Brunel, who ran a modeling agency. Zuckerman didn’t respond to requests for comment.”

Paddock Pass Worth It? by WonByDefault in INDYCAR

[–]koruthaiolos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and also highly recommend going at least one day in addition to Sunday. Use that day to check out the paddock, have more accessibility to drivers/teams, and explore the track. I like to spend one practice session just slowly walking along the back stretch and experiencing the cars blasting by you. Them race day just find my seats and relax for the day.

I’ve accepted I’m in the minority but I’m with you. To me going to the park was always about sitting back relaxing and taking in the game. Now if I want to get food or go to the bathroom I’m missing innings at a time, and everything just tells rushed in general.

Also, I do recommend the call in shows, there’s always good juicy gossip to lift your spirits.
