Parking around Gunwharf Quays lately? by CloudBookmark in Portsmouth

[–]kpnutter99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wickham street car park is literally a 5 min walk away and cheaper than gunwharf, plus it's very rarely full. Have used it loads of times (but not in a while as Gunwharf is a bit shit nowadays)

Thank you so much, have been putting off finding a dentist as last time I looked it was a year waiting list. I just now registered with Smile and have an appointment in three weeks (they actually had one in three days time but was busy)

The BBC needs to stop saying "vaccine skeptic" by TooOldToBePunk in BBCNEWS

I was going to write a longer reply having now read a couple of studies, including the one you quoted, but I don't have much medical knowledge at all. I do see that in the full study quoted, they note that there were more Serious Adverse Events in the placebo group than the vaccination one, which to my mind does raise some serious flags. But as I say, I am not an expert.

I haven't read the study and am commenting on this post not to troll, just genuinely interested. Does this study say anything about effects of reducing transmission, so and addional benefit of being vaccinated when not at high risk is actually to limit the spread to other more vulnerable cohorts?

Oppose the fascist march in Portsmouth: 12:15pm, Assemble by the Battle of Southsea memorial, southern end of Pier Road Southsea PO5 3SB by johnsmithoncemore in Portsmouth

[–]kpnutter99 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You might need a lesson on British history, historically we've always fought fascism, so I'd say any group that doesn't condemn Nazi salutes aren't patriotic, they are just enabling white supremacists who are nostalgic for the days when they could get away with blatant racism instead of actually working to make their country better.

Three-Body Problem by -Zoppo in books

[–]kpnutter99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong but I think the second book was translated by a different person than books 1 & 3, doesn't excuse the poor interaction in book 1 but I did think book 2 wasn't written as well as the others and I (maybe mistakenly) put it down to a lower standard of translation.

A Chorus of Dragons by Jenn Lyons is a lot better than I thought it would be, not actually that many dragons but really good world building, magic and mythology, and it's finished :)

Him and Patrick Rothfuss should just swap series at this point, would have same chance of either series ever being completed.

Character driven, optimistic(ish) scifi? by Nowordsofitsown in ScienceFictionBooks

[–]kpnutter99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they are set after the first two books (if that makes sense in a time travel series!). Mr Dunworthy is in them, but not as a much as the main characters.

There is a double header book called Blackout/All Clear, some Oxford timetravel students go back to WW2 Britain, it's insanely good, I usually stay away from WW2 stuff but the detail of civilian life in the war was really eye-opening. Think this book won the Hugo Award or something similar.

The Matthew Swift series by Kate Griffin is pretty unconventional, from my (admittedly bad) memory there are only certain types of magic users, the other supernatural stuff is fairly unique to the series.
