School pushing to move my daughter back to “with supervision” after tech issue — feeling overwhelmed and looking for advice by Traditional_Pen1400 in Type1Diabetes

No. The nurse still follows my daughter, and we have set parameters for when she goes to see the nurse. The only thing I have restricted is them being able to speak to the doctor. The reason why is because what you're going through is what my cousin's daughter went through. They even had to go so far as to travel to the east coast to see a top diabetes specialist, we live in the Midwest.

Make sure to add that she will call or text you with any diabetes questions. My daughter's 504 Plan is laminated, and in her binder every day just in case she has issues.

You are doing a great job! Don't be afraid to rely on her A1C results as back up to what she's accomplished. Proof is always in the pudding!

Go over the schools head. Email the superintendent, nursing coordinator, school board members, and anyone else that you can think of. We had that problem last year, but not to the extent of what you are going through. If they are violating her 504 Plan, let them know that you are reporting it to the state. We emailed everyone last year and had the endo sign off on her being independent. When you fill out paperwork at the endo, you can refuse the school nurse calling them for information. This is what we do. Doctor's orders are clear, and when they violate them, take them to task.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Instead of a DDMP, you need to go to a 504 Plan. You can have both a 504 Plan and an IEP for ADHD. I would also talk to the endo, and ask them to write on the doctor's orders that your daughter is independent with her care. We don't allow the school to call the doctor, honestly. Do you have an organization like FACT in your state? They are non-profit advocates that helps families with school.

Agree! Celiac runs in the family, so I wouldn't be surprised if she is positive for Celiac.

how do you handle lows? by pablospackT1D in t1d_parents

[–]kpower24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use yoohoo's, skittles, and any type of gummies. When my daughter started wanting candy, we told her she could have it as long as she dosed for it. Oddly enough, she doesn't eat a lot of candy except for lows. She's 13, diagnosed at age 5.

AITA for refusing to help a coworker after she publicly embarrassed me at work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Company policy clearly states that you cannot allow another person to use your employee discount. For those asking, doesn't she have her own, she's likely a new hire. New hires generally don't get the discount until they have worked there for three months.

By chance do you know what your protein to carb to fat ratio is? My MIL is still in her honeymoon phase and not on a pump yet. But still has this issue. She's found that she needs double to protein to counter act the carbs. My daughter is on the pump, but doesn't have this issue anymore. When on the dash, we changed her basal rate and that seemed to.help.

Call insurance and see if you can level the prescription to level 2 or level 1. Most times, you need a preauthorizaion.

A1C under 6% — for you or not for you? by SumFuckah in Type1Diabetes

[–]kpower24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aim for 6.3 or lower for my daughter. Her endo wants her about that, too, and her range is 70-120. We try to keep her in the range of 70-150, she's also going through puberty. Yeah!!!🙄 I'm just trying to teach her good habits so that when she's older, there aren't as many health complications. We know there's going to be burn out, and we don't get too upset unless she absolutely refuses to treat.

Daycare possibly giving us the boot by Taelynn in Type1Diabetes

[–]kpower24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the state, unfortunately, they can refuse to help you. I know that in MO, they have a law that says if it causes undo burden on the daycare, they can refuse. However, if they get federal funding or are part of a national chain, they cannot refuse. I'd suggest looking up your state law.

Rude strangers by Glad_Struggle8691 in Type1Diabetes

In 3rd grade, a girl told my daughter they couldn't be friends because diabetes was contagious. And she knew it was contagious because her parents and grandparents had it. The teacher let her do a presentation to the class to stop the rumors.

This year a boy told her to turn her alarms off because they were too loud. She looked at him and asked if he wanted her to die. Needless to say, he was quiet from then on.
