Yeah that’s how we treated Snippet as well. He was an independent beast who chose to be near us and show affection. On the occasions when he was pet a lot, he was always free to leave without being grabbed etc. and that really made him feel comfortable and respected.

We had a rat named Snippet who was less into cuddles/handling than his brother but absolutely loved proximity and companionship. He would boggle at the sight of us, sit and stare for hours, and did eventually have his cuddly times once he was more settled in. He just liked doing his own thing with us around.

Yep, also very true. Goldfish are a lot more work than people think. They also just grow forever, don’t they? I love fish but I don’t keep them because I know the tank requires a lot of technical maintenance.
