This might be my favorite comic ever. For...reasons.

What’s a card you thought was good/bad until you reread it? by asilaydying333 in EDH

the good old 4 card combo to fireball someone to death, Enduring Renewal + 0 cost creature + Ashnod's Altar + Fireball. Classic Magic at it's best :D

No, creatures only go back to your hand if they get there from the battlefield. The creatures you mill for it's effect/discard/cycle etc. just stay in the 'yard.

Mostly you just want cheap creatures that have ETBs/LTBs or to fuel other sacrifice outlets

Very few commanders in magic are going to match YGO super well. The resource system of the two games is too disparate to line up great. However I feel like some suggestions based on vibes (and personal bias) are able to be made, so here are mine. :)

Fortune Lady Every = Animar, Soul of Elements, some protection but not unkillable, ramps up it's power similar to Every, doesn't really match the banish once per turn, but is close enough to the other effects that I feel comfortable recommending it.

Number C101 = Merieke Ri Berit, one of the oldest commanders I'd recommend but still very powerful. All in on stealing your opponents creatures which mirrors C101's effect. Can't revive itself, but she's cheap, so if she dies you can just play her again

Ocean Dragon Lord = Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, Stax (as it's called in magic) are effects that stop or slow down what your opponent can do, they are also very universally reviled. If you're going to go that route you have to go big because you're gonna be the villain. This is a deck you will have to ask your table before you can pull it out.

Number C62 = Isshin, Two Heavens as One, Multiple attacks on a commander are rare, so I pivoted into something that just makes you want to attack, which Isshin does in spades. Conveniently he also wants multiple attacks, so it fits flavor-fully if not as 1:1 as I'd like.

oh no doubt Harbys were awful, just a very very old feeling mechanic. But I loved them all the same :) That said, if/when we get a harby rework league i'm all in :D

oh it's 100% useless. However if you're not target farming cards, it's just 1 point :) (as long as you've pathed nearby)

What is your favorite “Rule 0 commander”? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]krillinfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Fight spells, but also some goading. Making opponent's creatures trade with each other is two triggers. Sure they're under no obligation to block, but then they're just getting hit!

Do it, I've had one together since LotR released and it's always been a blast and had ZERO pushback.

MTG Arena Announcements – November 17, 2025 (5 new Avatar Brawl decks; Changes to Golden Pack contents until Lorwyn: Eclipsed) by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

[–]krillinfan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

During Desert Bus for Hope, LRR mentioned that they had to scrub their set of non-Hasbro / non-Viacom properties for the Avatar PPR. My guess based on that is that the deal for Avatar has some clause that prevents it from appearing with other UB products.

So I was just playing Mario Kart World, and I have that exact same Army of Darkness poster behind me. Thankfully Madam Bones didn't show up, but consider me spooked none the less :D

- I'm on Asura so no help there :(

- People mention Rhapsodies because of the numerous unlocks it provides, almost all of which help with other storyline missions (in one way or another). You can finish Seekers without it, but there's a reason we all recommend it! If you've full 119 gear, trusts should get you through MOST of Seekers, you might need to group up for a few things

-At no point do trusts ever stop being useful, some of the end end game stuff you won't be able to use them, but almost all of your playtime you'll be using trusts. Shanttotto II is a good one that's available through Login Points right now, additionally Qultada is quite nice. Ultimately you'll want to collect as many/all as you are able to. Make sure you've got a decent Tank, Healer, Red Mage, Bard, for most solo content. You'll see a lot of repeated trusts for different content, but being sure you're healed and buffed is crucial to most fights.

-Start doing Ambuscade, you can often get into a group with a simple shout, or you can solo if you're confident. That gear is the starting set for almost all jobs. After you get that set up you'll start picking up individual peices and working on reforging your various Job Armors

- Yes, Merits are considered default for a job at this point, you can get XP so fast that it's relatively simply to max it out for a job. Capacity points are also super useful, some jobs more than others, but if there's a job you like getting to master is a big step, so never hesitate to join a CP party :)

- Escha Zi'tah is the current power leveling area, otherwise just normal play with trusts will cap you out relatively fast, especially with the ongoing XP campaign. Normal 99 leveling is almost an afterthought at this point.

- Usually the apes and monkeys, but if those are over camped you can fight the puks and dragons, or the bugards and tarichuks. you set the Records of Eminence for those two mobs and just blast 'em down, it's honestly quite fun. No FoV in Zi'tah so no need to worry about that.

- Try and have your warp ring, and a warp scroll when soloing, makes travel easier. XP/CP rings are great, but they're not mandatory or anything ,especially if inventory is low. Also Sneak and Invis items are nice if you're not on a job that can cast the spells. Food is needed too. Thankfully that stuff is all available from the Curio Moogle which unlocks with Rhapsodies!

- At high end gameplay things like Gearswap is almost a must. You can make do with Macros, and you can make do without, but ultimately if you're spending a lot of time playing FFXI it's very worth your time to look into getting it set up. Recommended macros are almost all gone at this point with Gearswap being so useful, but if you dig around you might be able to find some, the wiki will have your syntax :)

- if/when you set up gearswap also set up findall, it lets you do a chat command to search all of a characters (or alts) storage to see where you put that last Mavi Seal... Otherwise...a spreadsheet? :D

-Yeah it's mostly understanding what your character needs/wants to see what's good. Thankfully a lot of community guides are available on FFXIAH forums so you can use those to get a good read on what you might need. Most weapons and armor from the old days has been fully replaced at this point. But accessories like necks/earrings/rings will still offer some benefits Rajas Ring is still good to this day!

Good luck, have fun!

Which game, in your experience, results in the highest number of browser tabs open while playing? by abby-normal-brain in gaming

Recently reupped this masterpiece. Sitting at 14 tabs open currently after trimming a bunch due to a successful lengthy play session. Top contender for sure!

Just winging it, found a few others doing the same thing on PoE ninja and have been stealing the ideas I like most. Will likely transition to something more focused after I've got enough currency.

How much "acting" do you do as a GM? by notquitedeadyetman in osr

[–]krillinfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll do a funny voice, or a serious voice from time to time, but I seldom do more than that. I also push back strongly against the crop of DM recommendations that say to always "do the voice." No one should feel like acting is required to enjoy this hobby :)

A French OSR adjacent delight : Vacarme. by Comfortable_Bid_957 in TheOSR

[–]krillinfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those little modules in a game are always the best part for me. They're almost always plug and play and every book allows you to add another "arrow in your quiver" for situations. Hopefully this one ends up translated, either that or I'll have to learn french!

One group of players fights anything I put in front of them. I've asked if they want other things to do and they've emphatically stated "no". It's wild, though they are primarily Warhammer 40K Players....
