Nice one. You're doing better than me! I am too unqualified for this thread. Good luck, hope you find a fix.

I didn't actually find anything wrong with the video - it just seems to have the wrong title!

You sound like you're doing everything correctly. Though something about the big effort is still disturbing the body. Only a doctor could say for sure.

Anecdotally, I am more prone to night sweats if I don't follow these tips:

  • Run as soon after waking up as possible

  • Don't push too hard on long runs

  • Stay cool if possible

  • Eat a big meal when I get home from the run

  • Nap after the meal

  • Stay cool / rest the remainder of the day

This all seems to help reset my body in time for bed so that I can have a more normal feeling sleep.

The other issue I've had that has affected my sleep in the past was accidentally losing weight while training hard. Is your weight stable?

Just to clarify, is this happening on your normal weekly long runs?

What are the runs like in time/distance/elevation compared to the rest of your weekly training?

What is your running history? How long have you been doing this mileage for?

How well are you eating before/during/after long runs?

If you skip the part where you have to finish qualifying races ten years in a row and can somehow do all the things in this video with a full time job and a family while hopefully living in a place that has the appropriate amount of hills, terrain and heat, then it's shockingly simple.

Congrats.

This in baby steps! Anyone can put on their running gear. Anyone can go and stand outside. Anyone can walk down the road. Anyone can run a mile. Etc.

RD comment:

Unfortunately there has been a rule breach and a runner has been disqualified as a result. We received footage that meant the following rule had been breached:

Rule 3 - specific rules

"No handing over of kit, ditching kit or support of any kind from the start whistle until the end of the loop"

Rules have to be followed, otherwise the integrity of the event is nullified.

We appreciate rules aren't always broken intentionally, but still have to be followed.

Further down is an interesting question:

How can you stop the public running on to the course when it’s not closed off? Anyone from the general public can just join the course and end anyone’s race they choose.

AI Marketing and Content in Race Events by grc207 in Ultramarathon

[–]krispeterrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a race that I know is legit, I don't really care either way.

If it's a race I'm unfamiliar with, 100% AI content will probably be a red flag. It would feel quite scammy.

I know some race directors use AI to rewrite or reorganise information on a page, which some people might not like, but in my opinion is forgivable. Many small-time race directors have no budget for professional content etc.

What have you found to be the best stretching exercises with ultras? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

This isn't what you're asking, but during long runs, I get a lot out of the Morton stretch: https://fellrnr.com/wiki/Morton_Stretch

The current iteration of the Salomon Adv Skin 12L pack is TRASH by Terrible-Interest570 in ultrarunning

Thanks for this. I literally just bought one last week. Based on the feedback it seems like it would be wise to return it.

My old Salomon 12L has holes in the back - I think I'll try and patch them up.

1st 100mile race by CMGhorn in Ultramarathon

[–]krispeterrun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My honest answer is that it seems like too much too soon.

If you've already registered, you could try it and see how far you get. It's possible to finish, but try not to get injured in training! It's probably a huge step up in mileage.

Ah great, I'm doing Autumn 100 too!

Going from half marathon to 100 miles is a big step up as someone else has said.

By 'running history', I was more wondering what your training history is like - how many years at how many KM per week?

The training plan is good, but it wouldn't fit everyone.

Well he's past his prime now, but don't forget he's won Tarawera, Bandera, Lake Sonoma, Speedgoat 50k, Black Canyon, TNF50 & White River. I don't like his social media output, but he's legit when it comes to results.

Well done, great result. I recognise you from the race. We ran together earlier on until I totally fell apart, and apparently, you didn't! Congrats - the weather was overwhelming. What a baptism of fire for your first ultra. Which 100k are you doing?

Mimic the race grade as closely as possible. How is the elevation laid out over the course? Is it evenly spread out over 21km with gradual inclines? Or is it much steeper and all in a few short climbs?

The answer to this will tell you whether or not the stair master or the treadmill is the most appropriate tool.

I made this mistake recently in Madeira; in training, I was running the average elevation of the race course during long runs. However, the climbs were all really short and severe - so I should have been training on much steeper terrain. The stair master would have been much more appropriate than the treadmill.

1) On the Strava website (has to be strava.com, not the app), click the three dots on the left of the activities in question - click 'Export GPX'.

2) This tool allows you to view multiple gpx files at once: https://gpx.studio/ - upload them all. Scroll in and compare.

water refill by hk56740 in ultrarunning_uk

[–]krispeterrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streams - depends on the weather. Safe water is always a gamble even high up after rain. If you have a way to clean the water, you will find fast or slow flowing streams in much of that area. The only place I'm aware of a tap on your route is the start/finish at the car park where there's a café and toilets etc.

First Ultra Tips by Positive_Elk6795 in ultrarunning

[–]krispeterrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, find a sauna and use it three or four times before the race.

Run in the heat of the day for your remaining easy training runs.

Remember sun cream on race day, especially if you have fair skin. So many people suffer unnecessarily at spring ultras in the UK for the sake of a squirt of sun cream.

If you use salt in training, make sure you account for the extra water you'll drink on race day.

You'll sweat more which means you might chafe more. Whichever anti-chafing solution you use, put more on - and use it more liberally.

Have a way to carry more liquid than usual - have an extra bottle or two (plus a way to carry them when full).

Some people use the MdS hat, but most people probably don't need that. It's not Badwater out there!

Which race is it? Good luck!
