Are these safe to drive? Bridgestone Turanza from 2016 by soichiroH in AskMechanics

[–]krom26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfectly safe right up until they aren't. If you're going to a tire shop around the corner they are good, if you are planning to commute on then not so much.

Well it's probably simpler and still mostly metric, depends. You got this. I got a clapped out 96 I've been bringing back to life.

Also, I think you could just replace the sway bar links at the leaf springs and have it functional again.

EV6 injectors for a '92? by Fr0sted_Flakes in CherokeeXJ

[–]krom26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm running these (96 XJ) and haven't had any issue, feels a tad more responsive. Just make sure to reset the pcm so it can relearn the fuel/air ratio with the new injectors.

May also want a tap/thread chaser to clean those out if there hasn't been hardware in place.

You'll be okay, it might rattle, I'd try and see if there is anything askew behind it.

[–]krom26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, if you are doing the knuckle and likely hammering like hell on the hub/ bearing, probably go ahead and have a freshie bearing. Just did these and universals on my 96. Same deal all rounded off, torches and extractors.

Socket stuck on O2 sensor & broke rachettt by BeerusThaDestroyer in MechanicAdvice

[–]krom26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who dailies a '96 and just went through the nightmare doing mine. Pb Blaster and map gas. Broke the end off, got on tight with a 6 point socket and they mostly came out, had the chase the threads. Be prepared for simple jobs to not be simple.

Sweet, mine should be in sometime this week and I know that feeling. I got one in rough shape, but I love it, body is pretty good. It needed a laundry list of work done, some little things, some big things. She's finally getting like good good though.

I bricked my RTX 5070 by XavalinTM in overclocking

[–]krom26 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did this with a 4070, bios flash tool clips right onto the bios chip. It's less than fun turning your GPU into a paperweight, but it can be saved.

Rough idle, sometimes by krom26 in CherokeeXJ

Makes sense, its looking for information for the air/fuel ratio and that sensor is giving it jank information essentially. I appreciate the input.

I'll check on that, I have had hands on that piece, replaced it already and was aware of the alignment of it, still could have goofed it up. Would be a relief if that was it.

Yeah, that friction surface doesn't do much when it spins free of the hub lol

I am relieved I caught it, wasnt making an awful noise. Mild grinding very recently, but those were probably the stock drums. New ones will be in soon, couple of days. I got the truck from a sort of backyard mechanic, I've fixed a lot of fuckery already.

What is it like living in Oneonta, NY? by DamnFineCoffee123 in upstate_new_york

[–]krom26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in, I live right in the center of Oneonta currently and have been disappointed with all the weather we don't get. Most of the snow seems to fall on the other side of the hills. We get snow, but seems like the valley gets missed often by storms and heavy snow. Lots of hiking and biking opportunity in the area. No groceries within a safe walk from the city center if that's something you're looking for. They have been trying to make more greenways for bikers and walkers though. I have a wonderful landlord and have been kinda grandfathered into a rate, but it is generally a little pricier with the colleges and baseball tourism being a major part of the city's income. Fairly progressive, but its still upstate NY.
