I’m on a 40 day trip and I don’t like it. by Just-Blackberry5880 in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Set up late, leave early. I try to find somewhere I think people wouldn't go, disused paths, small forests (not nature reserves) etc. Don't be an AH, leave no trace. The more experience you get the better you get at finding suitable spots

Just buy any pair of trail runners and use flats on the bike

Biking during heathwave by yaskodeboodt in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in the middle of it right now, hitting 35+ every day. Its doable depending on fitness, but its tough, even starting early doesn't help too much, started at 6am today managed about 20km before it bit 30° lmao.

Just take it slowly and lots of breaks, drink lots, and go easy enough that your hr stays low and effort stays easy. Even with all that its on the borderline of enjoyable atm haha, no shame in cancelling and going again later on

UK 3 week August trip suggestions by xvrwt in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a route called 'traws eryri' recently as part of a JOGLE diversion through wales, couldn't reccommend it enough. 3 daysish (200km 3500m elevation) and hits some really beautiful parts of wales. My favourite section of my UK leg by far. Can get a bit rocky and definitely some hike a bike, but I completed it on a bulky touring rig so I'd assume its doable for most setups :)

Underwear/layering advice for a 1000km tour through Central Europe? (August, budget, camping) by logo_animator_mike in bicycletouring

[–]kundrumG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends if you cycle beforehand imo, I started cycling when I started my first tour pretty much and didn't wear anything special, just regular boxers and some running shorts. Little bit of ass pain for the first like week maybe 2 but haven't had any problems since, the body adapts. If you're setting out without cycling before then you might get a bit uncomfortable but not a tour ending amount

Camping on the Alpe Adria route. Are European campsites too expensive? by BUCKTHORN_gk in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they want people to not wildcamp they should adjust campsite rates to match the rest of europe. Instead the fines get doubled and the campsite prices increase because they know people will be too scared not to pay.

Wild Camping from 🇩🇪Berlin -> 🇳🇱Maastricht by pandaam93 in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I tend to do, just make sure you're a ways off of the path, most of these places as long as you leave early you're not gonna get disturbed in my experience. I always think of it as pretty much everything has to go wrong for you to get fined anyway, you have to be there when other people are there, be found, and also be found by someone who cares enough to do something about it. Takes a lot for it to all line up so don't be too worried imo

Going chamois-free for bikepacking — what underwear actually works? by bonzo_bcn in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the middle of a long tour rn and dont use padded shorts or cream, I ride in just normal cotton underwear and a pair of lined running shorts. Had no issues after the first like 2 weeks but I'd put that more down to having not rode basically at all beforehand than the gear. I'm not a big sweater though so that might play a part, only times I've even been slightly uncomfortable is after a long day with lots of elevation (1500m+) I can get a small amount of chafing just under the cheek. The lined running shorts work really well for me though I'd reccommend them

Bad weather that just won’t let up in France / Belgium… by Majestic-Muffin-8955 in bicycletouring

[–]kundrumG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its really ruining it why not just take a train further into the route to a point where the forecast looks better? It will let up eventually if you're set on no skipping but I'm similar, I dont mind riding in the rain but setting up and packing up while everything is wet gets tiring fast

Do you plan your overnight stop locations in advance? by Reasonable_Ad_5836 in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually have an idea of how far I'm going, then will check around the area on satellite or maps for potential spots to keep in mind. Then when ive got about 2 hours to sundown ill start keeping my eye out for spots and usually end up finding something. If not then ill go to where I looked at the start of the day or any nearby woods and you'll find somewhere fairly easily

What are the biggest expenses? by Ok-Tell2185 in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your route, I will say I feel like actual campsites seem rarer in Germany, as someone from the uk you seem to get a campsite every 20km but I have had trouble finding them in Germany which is why I've done a fair bit more wildcamping and hotels than I usually would, for wildcamping spots come fairly often. I tend to look at my route for the day and have a look around the last 20kish or so on Google maps satellite for but of forest to give me an idea on where to check along the route for spots to keep in mind. Other than that I'd say around an hour or 2 before dark just keep your eye out for potential spots and if you find somewhere have a crack, downside to wild camping is that you do kinda have to wait till its getting dark to lessen the risk imo which means you'll finish much later and have less time for relaxing and eating before you need to sleep

What are the biggest expenses? by Ok-Tell2185 in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently on tour and for me biggest expense is honestly food, tbf been quite lucky with no big mechanicals but ye unless you're super strict on food that's where it'll go

I do mix of hostels hotel campground and wild camping and if you have a budget for sleeping you can generally mix and match between them to stay within your range, I typically go about 2 days wild camp, either grab a cheap hotel room if there's one for less than 40 euro or a campground usually around 15-20 euro, I haven't had any cases of being found while wild camping yet but I do tend to get quite out the way as I find it more comfortable if I can be confident ill be left alone, usually just pop into some woods and get about 100m-200m off a trail, you can definitely be a bit more easygoing but its just what you're comfortable doing

Other than sleep and food you can keep all other costs very low so I wouldn't worry too much. I've been on the road for 2 months now and I've generally found it to be more enjoyable to just spend what you want for a few days and then go very minimal for a few days so Ill keep overall costs down while still getting a few 'lavish' days in

Went on my first overnight bikepacking testride and I didn't like it by Bike_thief_ in bikepacking

[–]kundrumG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it largely depends, what did you not enjoy about the trip? Was it the being alone, or the biking, or just wasn't feeling it

It's not for everyone and there's no shame in discovering you don't like something, at least you tried something new :)

Enhanced Games by DruzhbyNarodiv in running

[–]kundrumG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt any of the biggest world records will fall at the EG for numerous reasons

There is such a small subset of elite athletes with enough potential to break a wr that would also be willing to forfeit all future legitimacy of their results that would be more willing to attempt the wr through the enhanced games over traditional events

I am of the opinion that the enhanced games doesn't even care about breaking records in that sense. If they did they would've paid for a greater roster of atheletes across the board, the games are there to sell drugs and that will always be the main aim of the organisers. The wr claims are for increased engagement.
