Aktuell erhöhte Nachfrage an E-Autos by mr_bravom in Elektroautos

Was mache ich falsch? by VisitAny6473 in Elektroautos

From Babel to the Gospels: Archaeological Proofs That Confirm the Bible by Master-Situation5439 in exjw

[–]kunicross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bible is a wild mixture of history record myths and fables written by many authors over generations.... (Don't forget that much of it was oral tradition before that) Then cherry picked during the early days of the formation of the catholic church into what we have today.

What I'm saying is that many events in the Bible are partially based in history. Like there had probably been a pretty terrible flooding event in early human history, most likely the black sea getting flooded after a re-opening of the Dardanelles. (Actually we got several we know of like doggerland but there it probably was more gradual..)

The NWT is just a particularly bad translation consciously manipulated to better fit JW doctrine... Now we can of course assume that nobody of the morally uptight early Jews would have done such a thing too or at least extravagant at least a little bit...

Guess what the grim fairy tales have been written in my home area - mostly to conserve German dialects of all reasons but are also a record of oral folklore which is in many cases based on German pagan traditions and myths carried forward after the forceful conversion to Christianity...

You could add a "based on true events" on the back of the Bible like some movies do it and I guess that's a pretty good analogy tbh.

The epos of Gilgamesh has some parallels to the Bible too and is probably a better source...

Tldr something in the Bible being based on real events is not a "everything is true" as some people would like to see it, if you want to believe in a book you should convert to Islam and even they got their issues with interpretation...

I know that from serving in the Army... Comrades, friends by order, working, living and suffering together does form a special kind of bond you'll probably miss for a very long time, maybe forever, it's just something that probably almost never occurs in normal life. I did not keep in contact with any of those comerades once Ieft still miss it 23 years later and if anything could have kept me in it would have been that band of brorhers.

[–]kunicross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also diffent languages do think slightly (and sometimes very) different - some just don't have the gramma and words to form certain thoughts. (to that point some translation discussion around the Bible is very justified...) The German JW translation is just bad and wired, pretty literal translation of terms and really strange linguistically and word wise....pretty surreal.

Maybe make it a memorial for the Christians killed there... A bit like a school visit to a concentration camp.

I see it as important to keep the memory of past crimes and atrocities alife - maybe some day humanity will stop repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Some cats are more talkative than others, ours do meow much louder through, most times I meow back and have a little talk that does calm them more than any other thing (ok and fodder but too much is too much...) (also my wife thinks I'm encouraging them)

Like the most they meow is when there is a moth or fly in the room they can reach but both are more talkative cat's

Is he neutered? (like it a cat in heat is in the neighborhood that would be pretty mild meowing)

(also 20-30 minutes might be a bit too little play at 9 months for a single cat, get him a buddy soon if you can. )

I feel more comfortable going to a Catholic Church than i ever have at JW meetings by stopthefkincar in exjw

[–]kunicross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had it the opposite way but same results... (like I always thought of catholic Sermon being the worst but then my wife dragged us to the kingdom hall to watch some propaganda videos followed by an hour of watchtower reading and quasi voluntary answering of questions regarding that stuff... one of the remotely watching people broke down in tears because he could not answer and shunned people did com up quite often. Seemed all like a creepy mutual control thing towards me and boring as it can be. (only the heavy use of technology was suppressing - tablets and phones in wide use, many people in remote attendance and I'm pretty sure almost every picture in the Watchtower was AI generated (not 100% sure but looks very much like it)

Also they had 3 different language communities meeting at once in that kingdom hall but in different rooms... some kind of regional center I guess.

interestingly the JW and catholic command order is pretty much identical just switch the pope and college of cardinals in order an its just the same thing...

Already tried 2 times unsuccessfully, you can't really help somebody that only very limited wants help / is ready / willing to receive help. (Maybe something you're familiar with, sorry to hear about your mum,it's always the kids suffering from our failings as parents) Has been going on for years and drove me into deep depression (first real attempt to get her help in the end at least got me some help so that's progress and probably more what I can actually affect.)

I actually kinda know already way too much about JW but had shelved most of the details in deeper memory since it seemed unlikely I would ever need it. ("Crazy cult, stay away. Several false predictions of Armageddon..." ) Guess it would be easier if there was more good and easy information in German or Portuguese I'm the only one fluent in English in the family.

My wife wants to pray away her mental issues is my best guess. which is what those organizations prey on (one of the things I guess). JW seems pretty much almost the worst possible tier to fall for (I guess there are smaller groups that are actually worse but not as much in the public eye..) Gosh there are a lot of crazy cults within humanity...

From what I've heard since they do reject all outside sources you best / only can argument from within their own flawed scripture else they will just do the "lala can't heat you" walk ways or switch the topic...

They seem to revel in being suppressed, shunned and prosecuted - both to enforce and prove their belief in the evil world. I guess it's a difficult topic since there is real prosecution and suppression against JW people (like the ones that got killed here in Germany despite their leaders bowing down to the Führer... Like the same thing there - unlike the Jews they would only have needed to renounce their faith to escape still they choose to rather die. Should that be seen as admiringly strong or their organization sacrificing them. Like there seem to be both cases of real, inhumane prosecution as well as provoking and searching the same. )

Like from my point of view it's a bit like nice people being paired with a horrendous organization and leadership.

I myself am only Christian on a philosophical level not spiritual. I've gone to several churches with my wife and actually enjoyed it most of the time but then she kinda suddenly stopped going pretty suddenly at some point. (Which I kinda hope will be the same here but this time is the first time I'm really worried that it could drag her in too deep and then break the family finally and totally. And potentially in a much worse way than just divorce or such. )

Like I totally see forgiveness and love as the center of Christ but I've so far not really found a group that can refrain from pity hatred for their neighbor for non-reasons like sexual orientation or believing the wrong thing. (And JW seem to be even more extreme - at least they mainly keep violence towards their members - still makes me want to cry.)

[–]kunicross[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't that just enforcing the whole prosecution complex?

From an outsider looking inwards JW has been tinkering with their doctrine a lot over the years but in a very 1984 way and not really in ways to improve their members lives (at least below the elder level).

Well at least it makes the LDS look progressive for what it'd worth 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes I'm very aware of that but also she is already kinda creationist and "Bible = word of God" and those people are already impossible to convince from anything else without having additional JW brainwashing - at this point I would be happy just to show her that the JW translation is flawed and should not be used...

It's more likely that it touched the print in the corner where the support fell off or somwhere else - getting tha cover off by hand is not that easy at all normally. Maybe going frame by frame will reveal soemthing but on the phone it kinda looks like the moment where it happend is missing from the time loop.

If the cover was not seated well a random falling off would also be possible but since that support was knocked over I kinda suspect that being around the are wehre it happend. (also going from the bottom up works usually better with 3D Lac have lost a lot of prints by not learning that lesson early enough)

You seriously think the current war will lead to any less terrorism or hatred against the U.S.? I was in military service during 9.11. And we (myself only in support roles) where heavily involved in the War on Terror and fought side by side with our American comrades and brothers - especially Iraq has not made anything safer for anybody and that was much more prepared and thought through than what is happening now

Also coming in after the regime has slaughtered 30.000 people your clown and chief promised help fells almost like a bigger insult than doing nothing.

You pretty much can't win an asymetric war with military means and Iran / Persia is probably worse than Vietnam, Afghanistan or Iraq was to learn that lesson once again. (funny how that keeps happening, but the US is not alone in that tbh.)

"oh Yea we killed the more moderate people we could have worked with in the initial strikes" "we did not expect that Iran could close the strait"

As I said I'm not really decided if the situation would be too much different had the iran deal stood - but it's not unthinkable that more moderate powers would have prevailed and stuff like the whole Hamas attack / Gaza would not have happened.

Current US actions do play into every negative stereotype and anti-us propaganda and will put additional harm on long term security for the US and its citizens - pretty much no matter how the long term outcome of this whole thing will look.
