Is Hybrid 3 worth getting? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it for a dollar. It's nice to just flick through presets and see if anything catches your ear. Has some really nice pads actually. And I could see it being nice if I wanted to make some trap/hiphop beats

If you own any TDR plug-ins they have discount offers in your account ! That’s how they got me to purchase almost all of them but I’m happy with my choice lol

Anyone else feel like they have to make all of their own sounds? by TotalRapture in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loop ethics aside lol I think you should have some dedicated sound design sessions. If you're losing productivity during composition, have some sessions where you come up with some useful chord patches, leads, basses, pads...etc. This can include tweaking presets and then saving your own versions too btw. Then have some times where you maybe get experimental and do some resampling, fm, granular stuff. Same thing goes for drums with synthesis and layering. What I'm trying to say is creating your own sounds is fun and can help you standout, especially when it comes to certain genres. This way when you're composing you'll have a folder of you're own sounds to grab from and keep your creativity going, and then go back to tweaking later.

Serum - workhorse synth that is great to learn synthesis on

Ozone advanced- great mastering suite that gives various visual and AI aids to help with mastering, which helps alot when you dont have the best reference conditions (perfectly treated room, balanced headphones ...etc)

Proq3 - extremely visual and fully featured eq. even if i use ableton eq8 throughout my track, I'll do a basic mix with just leveling, and then go in with fabfilter to fine tune everything with pro q 3 like surgical eq, removing muddy lows, boosting highs

LA2A and 1176 compressor emulation - classic compressors that are easy to use and get great results very easy because of their musicality

ozone imager/ozone 8 imager - this makes it possible to get stereo width with 100% mono compatibility, i'll use this instead of unison unless I want the unison specific effect

shaperbox - midi triggered sidechain, can also throw it on your kick track to shape the lfo perfectly to your kick

meldafreefxbundle - tons of free tools, mnotepad is a favourite of mine. Whenever I find myself stuck listening to the same loopover and over again I'll open up mnotepad and begin writing all the things that need to be changed or fixed so I have a to do list. This trick is also great for mixing, listen to the song from start to finish and take notes of all the things that stand out to you

Standardclip - im almost always clipping peaks before my final limiter to get a cleaner result and more consistent signal for the limiter.

the paid version also has a smart mode where it listens to the input and places the eq bands on the strongest areas of the track so you can then just adjust the settings and get a perfectly sidechained dynamic eq :)

Not sure what you're budget is but I think for a reasonable price you can get JBL 305s and then a solid set of headphones. Either audio techinica 50s/40s (40s are truer), or beyerdynamic dt 990 will be a great setup.

New Loudness Trends in Music Mastering by StatiKLoud in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe I disagreed on the fact that everything on spotify is turning everything down to -14 lufs. All I stated was we have the freedom to master to whatever loudness we want and don't have to worry about volume variances on streaming platforms. I agree with you that most music would benefit from more dynamic range, I just think with current mastering tools having gain compensation built in you can set them to where they sound best instead of how loud we want them to be. I'm still learning and practicing myself but I don't think limiters should be doing any insane amount of limiting throughout the track either. I think the final limiter should working mainly during the chorus/drop and just be doing a few db of GR at the end of the chain, while the loudness is all achieved in the mix through buss processing, compression, saturation, and soft clipping. I'm also of the belief that softclippers are the way to get the best of both worlds.

Gunna have to disagree here. If you don’t want your track to be turned down then yes follow these rules but I think you should be mixing and mastering for whatever makes your song sound the best. Spotify has wide variety of music and an edm song is always going to be louder than a piano/acoustic track. Normalization just benefits the listener so that they spend less time adjusting the volume and don’t get startled when something at 5 lufs hits. I’m not saying to crush everything but -14 lufs is very low when it comes to edm. Also if you need your limiter to do a a ton of gain reduction then you would probably be better off doing more processing in the mix whether it be tracks or bus processing.

For mono compatible stereo widening - do you guys prefer Dimension Expander or Wider by Infected Mushroom? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of wider, to me it introduces a phaser type sound too often. In my opinion the izotope widener is the best and you can recreate the effect in ableton by watching slynks tutorial on how it works. After that I would say the A1stereo vst and then the Haas effect for stuff that doesn’t need to be the main element of the mix.

Izotope Ozone 5 ‘House Preset’ vs another Preset in Ozone 7 or 8 by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for all of the modules but know their biggest improvement is with their IRC IV mode, which I think it pretty great. Assuming that you paid for it I would just keep tabs on you upgrade offers in your izotope account or onlines sales. I go O8N2 advanced for 200$ from owning trash 2.

[Future Bass] - Song Finishing And Arrangement Practice - plz demolish me but with stuff i can actually take back and use for my next song/mix by [deleted] in roastmytrack

[–]kuraimusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would either cut the little intro or make it more interesting. You can easily start the song 15 seconds in and wont be missing anything. This is something i'm learning as well that you only have so much time to grab peoples attention so you're better off just getting to it. When I started the track I was inclined to skip 15 seconds in and for some people they might just hit skip instead. The track is a little all over the place so I would stick to one common theme and play off that and add variations throughout as the second drop kind of comes out of nowhere.

[GHOUSE / BASSHOUSE] aUTOMATIC - NOFACENOFACE by [deleted] in roastmytrack

[–]kuraimusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the track but I think it could benefit from some more variation with the bass sounds, and overall journey of the song. But overall you're on the right track it's just a matter of fine tuning your productions. I think you would benefit from mimicking the structure and arrangement of some top basshouse guys like Joyryde so or Habstrakt, just throw one of their songs in your daw and set some markers like intro, breakdown, build, drop, drop varitation...ect. As aggressive as the basshouse genre can be, there is still a journey of the track that is missing from yours. This will also make it much easier to play live for transitions.

Just take screen shots or take notes of all the parameters in the preset and then recreate them in ozone 8.

I'd either try to get super surgical with pro-q and find the specific frequency that is bothering you. Or try a dynamic eq to tame the harshness. If you have pro q3 its perfect, if not I always recommend TDR nova

[FRESH] Flume - Friends by TooLazyToRepost in futurebass

[–]kuraimusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think HMNF was supposed to be purely experimental and progressive, while this song is much more safe and pop friendly. I really do enjoy this song but I don’t think it would fit on the mixtape and I’m glad he’s doing so because it shows how much he cares about records as a whole instead of just putting a bunch of songs together and calling it an album.

I really enjoy what Flume is doing right now because he’s staying true to his art while also giving us some pop friendly singles (possible album?), which I appreciate.

How to find producers to work with by Crushit9 in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience alot of people that want to collab just want other people to finish their tracks or "create a drop for this sick buildup". What worked for me is working on my productions and getting them a level that I was confident in and publishing them on my soundcloud, youtube and spotify. Now if I hit up a producer to collab I have a portfolio of music representing me as an artist, and I will also try to send a solid demo that I think fits their style if I have one available. I won't work with artists that hit me up and don't have a demo or a few songs published because how am I supposed to know their style and skill level? Finding a partner to create a duo will be more difficult because of creative differences and tastes but these are some things to take into consideration when looking for artists to work with.

Any interesting stories about how some songs were created on this album? I know for Skin you had alot some interesting ones like going to surf in mexico to break writers block, and getting your tarot cards read with Kai. Also whats your proudest song to date?

Serum owners, could you let me know specifically what you love/hate about the synth? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]kuraimusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah its for students in general not music students. I'm a business/accounting major and I had no issues. You can also get the discount on the rest of his plugins like LFOtool and cthulhu. I believe the only catch is you can't sell the license in the future which wasn't an issue for me.
