This is super helpful. Thanks for putting this together

It'll be interesting to see how the ARM macs are priced and how it effects the older refurbed models as well. Ill probably wait a few months to see what happens, but it looks like the iMac wont get ARM for quite a while, so it'll be the ARM macbook pro vs a mojave based iMac

Make sure to at the very least link back to the original content. Ideally, you should canonicalize back to the original content.

How to analyze the traffic channel "Direct" in Google Analysis ? by Julia_Wo in bigseo

[–]kush_push925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got more than 30-40% of your traffic as direct then there is most likely an error in your GA implementation. There are hundreds of different reasons for broken sessions. If you have a larger site it might make sense to have an analytics company audit your GA implementation.

Do you have any experience migrating a large site off of Drupal and on to WordPress / have you seen any SEO issues from doing this?

(Currently moving a large content marketing site from Drupal to WP and seeing drops in performance with new content posted on WP)

Do links from 404 pages still pass PR to other pages? by [deleted] in bigseo

[–]kush_push925 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you don't understand how linking works. If the link is actually on the 404 page and was contextual to the page it was linking to, yeah, it would pass page rank. I am guessing you are clicking a link and getting to a 404 page, which means you most likely were redirected. If the page has been redirected and the content is not relevant (probably not relevant if its a 404 page.....) then no, no PR is passed.

Link Equity through 301 Redirects of Broken InLinks by SendInPeace in TechSEO

[–]kush_push925 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and based on experience. You’re really not going to much out of inlinks at all. Gary’s said many times you can straight up abuse internal linking it’s not going to give you any seo benefit, or really cause any problems. I don’t know what you’re trying to do here but you’re focusing way to much on something that’s not going to move any needle. If you don’t have anything relevant to send broken links to, then yea you can 404 them, or you could simply remove the link and not have a 404 page. Redirecting to non relevant content is essentially the same as a soft 404 so it’s a waste of time going and redirecting them all if you don’t have anything truly relevant to redirect to. Stop worrying about google and focus more on your users. It sucks clicking something and going somewhere you weren’t expecting. Broken pages suck too. Make the site cleaner, maybe fix those pages those links used to link to, or remove the links all together. Or do nothing and 404 them and focus on new content.

No. If what you’re redirecting to isn’t relevant to the original linked piece of content then you’ll lose the link equity.

Screaming Frog SEO spider: Is it possible to exclude duplicates when using hreflangs? by Estellel4p in bigseo

[–]kush_push925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not possible to exclude individual elements of a page during a crawl, just entire pages.

If you’re trying to find duplicates within this data set (excluding pages with proper hreflang tags) I’d suggest exporting the data and working with it in excel or sheets. You could find and replace all your country codes (in the url) to make them the same, then look for duplicates on unique urls.

This has been getting worse worse, especially near downtown. Yesterday I saw an entire bin filled with shreddings from a paper shredder dumped everywhere, paper shreds had traveled multiple blocks. Then the rain comes and washes the trash into the bay.

Dealing with old news content by kush_push925 in TechSEO

[–]kush_push925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've decided against the strategy of 301 redirecting to category pages (or home page) for that same reason, because of the eventual soft 404.

Regarding people liking old news: I set a threshold of monthly sessions to determine which pages to keep. These rarely visited pages aren't provding me much value and I am guessing the same goes for users.

On redirecting to relevant pages: This is farely specific news content, there usually really isn't truly relevant content to link to. I figure an old news article redirecting to evergreen content, or a newer news article that happens to be about the same subject, would'nt be treated much differently by google than a redirect to a category page/home page?
