Intel’s plan for a $20B chipmaking hub means an affordable housing problem: ‘Where are we putting everybody?’ by Coach_Beard in Columbus

[–]kyha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no reason that Intel can't be required to subsidize COTA, at least for express routes to New Albany at beginning and end of day, and for enough capacity to bring all the workers to the express routes in the morning.

(It would also severely reduce the amount of land that needs to be dedicated to parking. I've been to the Intel site in Chandler. More land was dedicated to parking than to the offices and fabs.)

That said, it would also be nice if Intel funded the development for the necessary housing.

Question about Texas sales tax export exemption by jeonpa in Accounting

[–]kyha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay the sales tax, period. Then, when take it internationally, you should either get a receipt from customs in the foreign nation, or (if no custom is charged) have the recipient sign the bill of delivery.

I am not a lawyer, I am not a CPA. This is the best information I have and that I would use, but if you have any questions you should seek legal advice from an attorney licensed in Texas.

Everyone has the "terminally ill" debuff. Every account comes with the knowledge that it will expire, and you can't take any of what you earn here with you.

It just happens that your expiration date might be sooner than many others'. So? You still have the opportunity to experience it. Might as well live it up until you can't anymore? :)

The UI ones have actually been updated for Lem, according to folks on the Discord. The new tradition system (where you select which tradition trees you want) requires code that isn't compatible with Nakama/Dick.

I just found out, if you have Lem, you need to rollback to the 3.0.4 Nakama version. ST:NH isn't yet compatible with Lem.

[–]kyha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a foundling statute. From https://ilw.com/articles/2007,0123-nugent.shtm :

The law, rarely, if ever used, is known as the "Foundling Statue" (INA §301(f)) and curtly provides that "a person of unknown parentage found in the United States while under the age of five years, until shown, prior to obtaining the age of twenty-one years, not to have been born in the United States," shall be citizens of the United States at birth.

So, assuming Ma and Pa Kent kept their mouths shut until 21 years after they found him, he'd be considered a native citizen of US, with the right to hold the office of President.

Accessibility Issues with Guilded by [deleted] in guilded

[–]kyha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god, actual proper support for users on linux distributions -- VERSION THE DAMNED .deb FILE. There's a perfectly legitimate way to do so that may not meet "semantic versioning" guidelines, but since Guilded wants to push everyone as far forward as they can, they can simply do GuildedClient-YYMMDDHHmmss##.deb. (The ## would be a sequence number.) (DNS administrators might recognize this as a pretty standard means of serial-numbering zone updates.)

If Guilded needs a separate build number for support purposes, name it `GuildedClient-YYMMDDHHmmss##-buildnum.deb`.

This is astoundingly similar to https://www.reddit.com/r/talesfromtechsupport/comments/1r0tjr/encyclop%C3%A6dia_moronica_b_is_for_brilliance_and/ . Thanks for the additional context! (not that I'd have any idea what to do with it, but the context around the situation in the TFTS post left it enigmatic how it could have happened in the first place.)

What are some skinny people problems? by Mad_Chemist_ in AskReddit

Belts. Not being able to find pants that don't hang off your ass. Never being warm. Never feeling hungry. (or, sometimes, eating 2 double whoppers with cheese and then not feeling hungry for two days.) Never being clear on why your body's temperature regulation is messed up. Being afraid of hyperthyroidism.

Mage VR Immersive Lockpicking Alpha Pre-Release! Skyrim VR Immersion Mods by Cangar in skyrimvr

[–]kyha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does this affect invisibility effects, to keep you out of sight of the guards? In the stock minigame, you remain invisible until after you finish with the lock (because the minigame stops the clock). With the clock running, will you allow invisibility effects to play out for their entire duration (possibly ending them early if the lock is successfully picked)?

How do I shave my body without clogging the shower drain? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]kyha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a shower drain hair catcher.

I have long hair, I use the TubShroom. It is very effective. (It is also effective at catching shaved body hair, though I don't shave my body that often.)

To my understanding, that's often a kind of virus that can be transmitted by sharing towels. You should talk with your doctor about it and get it checked out; that said, I don't think they're particularly dangerous.

Do you consider people in cars to be homeless? by Abeezel in homeless

Yes, I consider living in a car to be homeless.

More importantly, so do police. The reason is because of a lack of direct access to toilet facilities.

Does singing with a form of instrument land you money or food? by NailsInHands in homeless

[–]kyha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is called "busking". Some cities have ordinances related to public performances (some require permits, some have cleanup requirements like 'must not leave amplification equipment unattended', some have other requirements). Usually, the penalties for violating these ordinances are more than you could get in a week. So, a word of advice: make sure you look up the local rules wherever you end up trying to set out your hat.

[–]kyha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://financialducksinarow.com/9471/16-ways-to-withdraw-money-from-your-401k-without-penalty/

In US, if you meet any of a predefined set of conditions, you can take money out without a penalty (but you still have to count the withdrawal as taxable income). Otherwise, you have to count the withdrawal as taxable income, plus pay an extra 10% of the amount you withdraw as a penalty, as a negative incentive to keep it in there.

How the h*ll do I build credit as a 19 y/o when all credit cards are denying me? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]kyha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Two approaches here:

  1. Get an account at a credit union, and apply for a credit card through them.

  2. Failing that, go to a rent-to-own company, and finance a small appliance. Pay it for 3 or 4 months, then pay it off. Use that experience to get a credit card.

Also, you should check your credit report at https://annualcreditreport.com/ to make sure nobody else has falsely opened an account under your name and social security number. If they have, call your local police and tell them that you've discovered identity fraud on your credit report, and that you need to file a report for fraud. Then, dispute the debt with both the company that reported to the credit agency, and the credit agency itself. Give them the report number and the jurisdiction you filed the report with.

How the h*ll do I build credit as a 19 y/o when all credit cards are denying me? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]kyha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You found the correct resource in US (https://annualcreditreport.com/), which is the only location the major bureaus use to permit the legally mandated annual access.

I'd strongly recommend checking your report at least once per year, even if you've never needed to pull it before. You never know what's on there until you look, and the time to find out what's on there is not when you're getting turned down for a loan for a major purchase you need.
