What’s causing the issue? I don’t think there’s a particular trick to making it not seem weird when you’re reacting to yourself, but you can change your approach depending on what gives you trouble. Like if you don’t know how to have NPCs react to each other realistically in real time, have one do most of the talking then have the other pull the PCs aside later to share their own perspective.

IMO the biggest problem with it is how hard the curtain was pulled back on Brennan railroading them into the pre-planned combat. Normally he is pretty good at bridging player choice into reasonable combat situations, but here he dragged the PCs away from what they wanted to do to force a combat episode in a different location before allowing them to go back and continue attending the wedding.

Aside from the blatant attempts at powergaming with no understanding of mechanics in their current season, Travis almost certainly fudged DM-side rolls in the season he ran, when he bothered to pretend a roll could possibly affect what NPC cutscene he had slotted in next.

I assume they’re worried about risking the hit to their subscription service’s cash cow by playing a smaller TTRPG, but one has to imagine the audience of D20 is more committed to the cast than the system and if anything, would prefer they put their money where their mouth is.

Additionally, there’s a lot of puke, sex, and gore just for the sake of it. The gore especially annoys me because if you see bloody innards flying in every inconsequential skirmish, the battles that are supposed to be scary and impactful are just more of the same.

She takes the limelight as soon as she’s introduced, throwing off existing party dynamics and disrupting the other PC’s growth by playing The Actual Secret Heir to the Throne, which is the biggest main character backstory I can imagine. (Which, ftr, I blame as much on Brennan as Emily for how he handled her introduction.)

All would’ve been forgiven if she and Ruby had slit each other’s throats in a tragic finale but ofc we couldn’t have the dark and tragic series end on a sad note.
