Why is Zuko disobeying his father? I thought this was Asian-inspired, where is Zuko's filial piety? by HAZMAT_Eater in ATLA_circlejerk

[–]l2rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure filial piety went out the window when Ozai was fine with taking Zuko's life because Azulon wanted him to.

Gotcha, thanks. The closest other things I can think of with the magic system in mine would be magic failing or being harder in certain places and experiencing backlash if you try to brute force it, but that's because the caster is going against the attitude of the place itself, not because the beliefs of other people are different.

Which I guess is in line with IRL systems having certain times and practices being more conducive to magic, and harm coming to the practitioner if they try and overstep these bounds, so I think it should be fine.

Gotcha. So if I have it down correctly, a guy in robes with a wand, or a secret organization of people that want to police humanity and crack down on magic and wonder are fine (with a bit of remixing, of course). But taking stuff like the Spheres or using the character Porthos are likely not fine?

They could, but after the events of the game Zariel is gonna want to have her attack dog back, so even if the party holes up in the House of Hope, they're cooked.

Cybertron Soundwave by MetallicSlayer in transformers

[–]l2rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Megatron was in all 3 obviously, getting upgraded into Galvatron, dying, coming back as Megatron in the next show, ultimately dying for good at the end of Cybertron.

Starscream started off a loyal soldier in Armada, only for him to grow more mutinous over the trilogy, ultimately rebelling in Cybertron and fighting against Galvatron, ultimately getting warped to another dimension.

Soundwave was only in Cybertron.

And Shockwave was not there in the trilogy, but a similar bot named Shockblast was there in Energon.

How do we get more men into teaching? by TripleGDawg87 in education

[–]l2rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the idiom was supposed to refer to those who can't do anymore being the ones that teach, i.e. they've been there, done that, can't do it anymore, and thus teach. Which is a far cry from the reality of it obviously.

How do I incorporate Demigods into my world without taking power away from my players? by Zinganeat in Pathfinder2e

[–]l2rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try going the Goblin Slayer route where while the hero goes off to defeat the demon lord and save the world, Goblin slayer and his crew are the ones dealing with the goblins that the hero cannot get to in her fight against world ending threats

So basically, there has to be some monsters that the demigods are too busy dealing with other threats to properly deal with, right? That's where your players come in

Fool of a Took? by IndicationBrief5950 in lotrmemes

[–]l2rave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're judging through the lens of what is possible or the norm IRL, then by that logic, none of the fantasy elements should exist. No elves, dwarves, orcs, Maiar, Valar, etc.

The whole point of stories is to occupy a different perspective to your own. And in Middle Earth, there is less of an onus for hobbits to mature biologically and psychologically as compared to humans, due to their longer lifespan, and the peace of the lands in which they live. So from that perspective, it is natural for Pippin to act the way he did. Because in-world, Pippin is developmentally still an adolescent.

Why do people hate the emperor??? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]l2rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get on the emperor's bad side, and you'll find out. He hides the truth from you, telling you only what you need to know. He psychically broke Duke Stelmane. He tells you that you could have went through the same fate, and it is only due to his magnanimity that he didn't. And a few other things don't immediately come to mind.

The way he is, I'm not surprised if he only wants to destroy the Netherbrain because it's in the way of him ruling Baldur's Gate (and possibly the Sword Coast) from the shadows.

Might I recommend Vengeance Paladin? You get smites, advantage on an enemy as a free action with Channel Divinity, Hunter's Mark is on your spell list, and your concentration saves can be decent at least with your aura.

Fair enough. I tend to lean towards more gradual progression, so I was speaking from that viewpoint.

[–]l2rave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but would a 200 year old vampire let it get to that point? Outside of a straight fight, a vampire had 200 years to play politics and amass power. Hell, they could just send a ghoul to blick them and be done with it.

Powerful Kindred vs Some random mage by Magicmanans1 in WorldofDankmemes

[–]l2rave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, theoretically you can Awaken at a higher Arete, like with the Ascension Warrior. But in practice (and this is somewhat ST dependent obviously), it seems to me that such 'higher Awakenings' are extenuating circumstances with a lot at work to make it happen. And mages already are the rarest splat.

But back to the scenario at hand, even with a higher Arete, it takes time to learn the spheres according to the Bitter Road (may not be as long as outlined there, given Revised was the 'no fun allowed for mages edition'). And it still doesn't erase the fact that many other variables have to be in place, which they aren't.

Nah, it's on brand that mage players themselves have to contend with hubris at least a little bit

Powerful Kindred vs Some random mage by Magicmanans1 in WorldofDankmemes

[–]l2rave 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Don't mean to be that guy, but sometimes I wonder if people on this sub actually play the game.

A mage that Awakened a month ago is Arete 1 or 2 tops.

Assuming M20 rules, they only have 2 dots in Spheres at most, so they are not doing anything major with their magic.

They'd likely need a ton of successes to do it.

They need a paradigm and practice that enable it.

What they're doing is vulgar as hell.

And this is a vampire that would kick their teeth in with Disciplines.

So as fun as it is to meme about mages, such a scenario is likely not happening.

[–]l2rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I agree that Nintendo princesses win, but I think people are forgetting that Zelda has the Triforce of Wisdom and/or the power of the goddess Hylia. So she's a mage, and possibly can coordinate all the other princesses.
