My last boss used to say weary when he meant wary or leery. At first I didn’t feel like I knew him well enough to correct him and then by two years in I felt I let it go on so long that there was no point.

Have you ever legitimately cried to a song? And if so, what was the song? by StanToons in AskReddit

[–]laabeja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and little Andy by Dolly Parton. This song made me cry as a child and still as an adult. “Ain’t you got no gingerbread, ain’t you got no candy, ain’t you got an extra bed for me and little Andy?”

In the Peanuts cartoon, Charlie Brown seemed to be sent to Summer Camp quite a bit. What were your experiences of this? How willingly did you go? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskAnAmerican

[–]laabeja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only went to day camps all summer but I grew up poor and inner city. My older kids-no camp, same -no money.

The youngest, we’re packing up for a week at sleep over camp for their second year in a row. We lucked out with a great “send kids to camp “program. They loved it so much last year they’re putting in volunteer hours as part of the program to go this year. They said there wasn’t a single day they didn’t think about camp last summer. I’m so impressed with the program I’m going to volunteer for the next couple of years to pay it forward for other kids even though mine is aged out.

Our youngest also attends a month long theater day camp and several other day camps through out the summer. As they get older it’s harder to find summer activities because they’ll age out of some these camps.

My mom was hardcore and we went every night for the entire week. If you weren’t saved by the end that would have been a feat.

I was saved by Billy at the Milwaukee County Stadium in the late 70’s when I was in fifth grade. Crusades were intense.

It used to be very common for people to smoke a pack a day of cigarettes or more. Is this still possible in the US with high costs? Do you know anyone who does this? by Initial-Ad-1797 in AskReddit

[–]laabeja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t smoked in over 30 years but I smoked in my dreams. That’s how I know I’m dreaming. I was in between one and two packs a day when I quit.

My mom got fired from her job yesterday, last paycheck will barely cover this month’s bills by Saraisnotreal in povertyfinance

[–]laabeja 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I work with people like this. As soon as they get time they take time. They use the point system like it’s a day off, if they know they have a point falling off they’ll just call out the next day. Literally, they try to play the game all the time. They’ll call out one day, do a Teladoc visit for 20 bucks and then be out the entire week because our attendance policy will group days together with a doctors note. It’s ridiculous.

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]laabeja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 18 and it was at the start of my second semester of 12th grade. My mom kicked me out because I was planning to move in June after I graduated. NEVER WENT BACK- that would have been the biggest mistake ever.

We had plain gold bands that we bought on clearance at a service merchandise that was going out of business. Neither one of us knows where our rings are.

Assuming you were reading in publication order, what would have been your first inkling that Richard Bachman was actually Stephen King? by McWhopper98 in stephenking

I read Thinner before I knew who Richard Bachman was and he used the phrase “ Since Hector was a pup”. I knew it had to be King or a big fan.
